The Director of Sterile Processing will be responsible for goal attainment, program improvement, and oversight for all Sterile Processing operations for University of Virginia Health System - Charlottesville. This role will oversee an estimated 2 Managers and 8 Supervisors across 3 shifts, providing continuous operations and service to the Medical Center 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.
Responsibilities include:
- Providing effective leadership to the work group; managing recruitment, performance, and retention activities of assigned staff.
- Developing and managing operational initiatives with measurable outcomes.
- Preparing and delivering reports to operational leadership outlining progress toward meeting annual goals and objectives, including performance related to finance, clinical activity, quality, safety, marketing, infection prevention, and human resources.
- Focusing on continuous operations and service improvement, along with coaching and development of supervisory staff.
- Creating a positive environment conducive to professional development of coworkers and subordinates, including mentoring, teaching, orienting, role modeling, and team participation.
- Ensuring compliance with appropriate regulatory requirements.
- Monitoring and meeting quality measures within the department.
- Participating in performance improvement activities.
- Assessing managers' and staff development needs, identifying goals, and providing resources.
- Interpreting the impact of broad scope organizational change for staff and developing change strategies for successful implementation.
- Establishing an annual operating and capital budget, demonstrating fiscal responsibility through meeting budget targets.
- Continually assessing all services, identifying problems, utilizing data to analyze, and proposing innovative approaches for solutions.
- Remaining current on new trends and best practices and incorporating them into Sterile Processing practices and programs.
- Annually reviewing and updating all policies related to Sterile Processing.
- Creating a culture and systems for recognizing and rewarding staff.
- Leading efforts for the Managers to keep all staff members advancing in the Ladder program when appropriate.
- Ensuring integration of ethical standards and core values into everyday work activities.
- Demonstrating detailed knowledge of instrument tracking systems and case cart processes within Sterile Processing.
- Rounding on all sterile processing locations to ensure quality of operations and conducting staff feedback sessions along with their managers.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
Position Compensation Range: $120,473.60 - $192,753.60 Annual
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
EXPERIENCE: 5 years of Sterile Processing Management experience required.
LICENSURE: CRCST, CIS, CHL required; CER Certification required within one year of hiring or transfer.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings and programs.
