Overview
The Rutgers Institute for Nicotine and Tobacco Studies (formerly Rutgers Center for Tobacco Studies) is undergoing dynamic and transformative growth. The Rutgers Institute for Nicotine and Tobacco Studies is one of the nation’s leading tobacco-focused research centers and its faculty have received over $50 million in extramural funding over the past two decades. The Institute’s efforts are focused on their mission of reducing and ultimately eliminating tobacco-related morbidity and mortality.
Five Centers or Programs currently operate at the Institute including a Tobacco Center for Regulatory Science, the Center of Excellence for Rapid Surveillance of Tobacco, the Tobacco Dependence Program, a Tobacco Industry Marketing Program, and a Tobacco Control Law & Policy Resource Center.
Posting Summary
Rutgers is seeking a Post Doctoral Associate for the Institute for Nicotine and Tobacco Studies, located in New Brunswick, NJ. Under the direction of the Associate Professor, the Post Doctoral Associate supports and conducts highly specialized and technical research for the Social Media Analytics (SOMA) Lab and the Institute of Nicotine and Tobacco Studies (INTS).
Duties include:
- Conducts preliminary data analysis.
- Prepares written reports, presentations, and peer-reviewed manuscripts based on the research at SOMA and INTS.
- May participate in new grant submissions that build on existing programmatic research at SOMA and INTS.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Doctoral degree in public health, behavioral science, health services research, sociology, anthropology, psychology, or a related discipline.
- Candidates in all-but-degree (ABD) status will also be considered.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of social media datasets (e.g., TikTok, Instagram, YouTube).
- Familiarity with commercial determinants of health.
- Familiarity with the study of misinformation or disinformation.
- Familiarity with tobacco control and/or cannabis control and/or alcohol control.

Work Arrangement: FLSA Exempt
Position Salary: $62,500-$67,500
