Title: Speech Pathologist Home Health, Per Diem
Department: Home Health & Hospice
Location: UMass Memorial Medical Center
Shift: Days M-F 8-4:30 as needed
Status: Non-Exempt
Position Summary: The Speech Pathologist is responsible for providing speech language rehabilitation services including evaluation of patients and developing and administering a treatment plan. Provides supervision and oversees care provided by student and/or support staff.
Major Responsibilities:
- Provide diagnostic and rehabilitative clinical speech-language services to both inpatients and outpatients in the hospital and at contracted offsite placements.
- Conduct evaluations of speech, language, voice, cognitive, and dysphagia disorders.
- Provide patient/family education following diagnostic evaluation and throughout treatment services.
- Complete all documentation for diagnostic evaluations and maintain records for ongoing therapeutic patients.
- Utilize evidence-based evaluations and treatments.
- Provide quality, cost-effective treatments.
Position Qualifications:
- Flexibility and availability to meet the demands of the position.
- Available transportation for offsite responsibilities.
- Physically able to work with people of all ages and educational backgrounds.
- Good communication skills and fluency in English.
- Self-directed with appropriate clinical judgment.
EDUCATION: Master's degree in speech from an approved school.
EXPERIENCE: Experience in a hospital setting preferred, MBS experience preferred, CFY will be considered.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, ETC.: MA state license in speech pathology, ASHA certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech, CORI verification.
AGE SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES: Possess and apply the skills and knowledge necessary to provide care to patients and customers throughout the life span, considering aging processes, human development stages, and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.
Unless certification, licensure, or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.
