Large Animal Veterinary Nurse
Position Summary
Provide patient care for ill and injured animals in the Veterinary Teaching Hospital. This position will work in the Large Animal Clinic; instructs and demonstrates techniques to students; assists students veterinary nurses and veterinarians in their work; maintains supplies, equipment and cleanliness of hospital areas. Working hours are four 10-hour days, first shift on Friday through Monday.
Minimum Requirements
Knowledge normally acquired in the first two or three years in college, technical or vocational school in Veterinary Technology; six months to one year of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in extensive patient care, surgery, anesthesia, drug-dosing, and sterilization; experience in the use of spreadsheet and word processing software, May require experience in a veterinary hospital research setting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; licensed as a Veterinary Technician with the State of Michigan or attainment of such certification within one year from date of employment.
Desired Qualifications
6-12 months as a veterinary technician in an educational setting; experience in Large Animal medicine.

Summary of Physical Demands
Lifting up to 50 pounds individually, with ability to also do share lifts for larger animals; carrying medical equipment to stalls and examination rooms; pushing medical equipment or animals to other units within hospital.
Summary of Health Risks
Potential exposure to animal or specimens with Mycobacterium bovis. Wear a respirator (does not include paper dust mask worn for comfort).
