The Opportunity
With revenues of over $2 billion and strong double-digit growth, the Structural Heart division is well positioned to deliver its purpose of restoring health and improving quality of life through the design and provision of device and management solutions for the treatment of structural heart disease. We aim to lead the markets we serve by requiring the solutions we offer customers provide an improved benefit/risk profile as compared to existing standards of care; a performance threshold that, by definition, guides and ensures the productive output of our engineering, business development, and clinical research efforts result in outcomes that advance the standard of care.
Senior Program Manager, Global Training and Medical Education role is critical to the strategic development, execution and delivery of comprehensive training and education programs for both Health Care Providers (HCP) and the SH Field Team, with a goal to advance the safe and effective use of all Abbott Structural Heart therapies (e.g. Transcatheter Mitral and Tricuspid Interventions, Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation, Cardiac Surgery and Surgical Interventions including Left Atrial Appendage Occlusion, Septal Occluders and PDA Closure). This critical position will have oversight for the global roll-out of the physician and field training curriculum, partnering with the Structural Heart Training Team franchise leaders and a global network of physicians to define the evolving procedural best practices and incorporating them into high-impact educational materials and programs that are used to effectively facilitate clinical trials, product launches, commercial execution and continuing medical education initiatives. This position will collaborate closely with Abbott Structural Heart leaders, key internal functions including Research & Development, Clinical, Medical Affairs, Regulatory, Global Marketing, Regional Marketing, Legal and Quality to strategically align medical education and training initiatives with key business strategies. The position reports directly to the Structural Heart Global Head of Professional Relations and Education.
What You’ll Work On
- Lead and facilitate comprehensive needs assessments of all SH therapies to identify knowledge and performance gaps and design instructional interventions to effectively address identified needs and gaps.
- Employ proven instructional design methodology and adult learning principles to develop physician-facing and field training curricula ensuring the safe and effective use of SH devices.
- Ensure key stakeholder engagement with SH Franchise Training leads and oversight of the development of Medical Education & Training plans, strategies and objectives to maximize the impact of SH's commitment to training health care providers in relevant fields.
- Develop instructional assets including didactic presentations, animations, videos, and self-paced eLearning modules.
- Establish competency-based assessment tools to evaluate learner performance and attainment of instructional objectives.
- Develop strategic plans to ensure the medical education and training is continually able to address changing market trends, new product or indication launches, and evolving procedural best practices.
- Establish and follow departmental processes and standards to ensure training materials and resources comply with all legal and regulatory requirements.
- Establish processes and procedures defining Medical Education’s role in the product development process through close collaboration with R&D and global marketing.
- Engage with HCP trial leadership and Clinical Affairs stakeholders to lead Training and Education Committees for clinical trials to ensure investigator adherence to clinical trial protocols and procedural best practices.
- Ensure key stakeholder engagement with Quality leadership to monitor field complaints and engage in cross-functional corrective action/preventive action (CAPA) projects as appropriate.
- Initiate and maintain strong relationships with Key Opinion Leaders in the industry across the globe, to rigorously evaluate and enhance training materials and procedural best practices.
- Prepare and manage all aspects of P&L, providing forecasting estimates and explanations to support LBE cycles.
- Create and sustain a positive work environment and culture within the team and across the organization. When appropriate - recruit, develop, and retain high-caliber, diverse talent. Ensure workforce is motivated and engaged toward common goals.
- Regularly monitor industry trends, competitive activity, changing market conditions, emerging issues and effectively initiate relevant strategic shifts as needed.
- Ensure operations are ethical and compliant with Abbott policies, practices and procedures.
- Domestic and international travel estimated 30% as needed.
Required Qualifications
- A bachelor's degree in education, business, marketing, or a related field; an advanced degree (e.g., Masters, MBA, PhD) is preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role within the medical device or healthcare industry.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with physicians and internal stakeholders at all levels.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and project management skills to effectively manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Strong understanding of the healthcare Medical Device landscape, including key stakeholders, regulatory environment, and industry trends.
- Time management skills and the ability to work under pressure and deadlines.
- Ability to influence and coach others to ensure effective and efficient delivery programs.
- High ethical standards and working knowledge of Business Conduct Standards.
- Experience working in a regulated environment.

The base pay for this position is $125,300.00 – $250,700.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
