General Summary
The Outpatient Clinical Program Director for the CHKD Mental Health Service Line is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist whose responsibilities combine clinical activities and leadership, providing a full range of direct and indirect care services in an innovative ambulatory interdisciplinary setting. Direct psychological services include evidence-based assessment and treatment to children and families. Indirect patient care includes program development and evaluation; oversight of the program delivery; collaboration with psychiatry, therapists, and any other specialties as appropriate; and clinical supervision and oversight of evidence-based treatment implementation. Faculty appointment at Eastern Virginia Medical School is available for qualified individuals. Opportunities to conduct research are open to discussion. Reports to Director of Psychology Services for the CHKD MHSL.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Leadership
- In collaboration with the Ambulatory leadership team, participate in program development for the mental health service line, process improvement and program expansion with a focus on psychology role in the interdisciplinary process.
- Collaborate with the Outpatient and Bridge Medical Directors to ensure that quality of care, access to care and sustainability are achieved.
- Participate in recruitment and retention initiatives to support workforce development.
- Ensure support for professional development and mentoring of outpatient psychologists in the division.
- Problem solve challenging care dynamics in a professional and supportive manner.
Clinical Program Delivery, Development and Evaluation
- Provide clinical training and support for implementation of best practices within the interdisciplinary treatment teams.
- Monitor implementation of evidence-based practices to ensure fidelity and feasibility of service delivery.
- When appropriate, assist in support and development of ambulatory treatment programs within the MHSL continuum of care in collaboration with relevant program leadership.
- Continually assess care delivery to identify opportunities for growth and improvement.
- Establish and monitor quality and access metrics for ambulatory programs.
- Provide clinical supervision to staff, trainees and students and facilitate group supervision.
- Coordinate with other services for joint learning opportunities.
Direct Patient Care
- Conduct assessments and interventions for youth admitted to short-term and outpatient treatment programs.
- Communicate findings and recommendations to team members and parents/caregivers, as appropriate.
- Utilize evidence-based practices to promote improved functioning.
- Coordinate with other disciplines in reviewing referred patients and coordinating admissions.
- Supervise the delivery of psychoeducational groups for parents/caregivers and other family members.
Licenses and/or Certifications
- Licensed, or eligible for licensure, as a Clinical Psychologist by the Commonwealth of Virginia, Board of Psychology.
- Board certification, or equivalent training and leadership experience, desired.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
- Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, either a PsyD or PhD from an APA/CPA accredited program, as well as successful completion of an APA/CPA accredited pre-doctoral internship.
- Previous clinical experience in pediatric/clinical child and adolescent psychology treating youth with mental health disorders using evidence-based treatments and assessments.
- Minimum of five years’ experience providing clinical supervision to mental health providers.
- Interpersonal skills necessary in order to direct and delegate work, inform and implement policy and procedures and communicate effectively within teams.
- Must possess the ability to identify problems and implement solutions for organizational and operational issues.
