Responsible for leading, managing, developing, supervising, and evaluating all aspects of patient care for the assigned area; manage and collaborate relationships with leadership and physicians regarding the care of responsible patient populations; assure professional, clinical, and educational excellence in the provision of quality care to patients; facilitate empowerment of staff in the implementation of creative and innovative patient care delivery models and stimulate a collaborative multidisciplinary team approach in the continuous improvement of patient care services; responsible for fiscal management of the unit; direct the recruitment, screening, selection, hiring, and dismissal process of the unit staff; oversee the orientation process of front line leaders and bedside staff in conjunction with the CNS; develop and direct a high functioning and healthy work environment applying healthy work environment principles and conflict resolution techniques; maximize front line leader and employee participation and accountability for decision making; facilitate, measure and implement strategies to maximize employee and team satisfaction; focus on staff development and career enrichment; manage continuous feedback, the use of grievance and disciplinary processes, and the formal evaluation process of staff in the areas of responsibility; effectively communicate and coordinate appropriate activities with other hospital and corporate departments, including Human Resources, QA, Legal, Finance, Payroll, other business units, and medical staff; build effective and respectful working relationships with peers and promotes optimal communication and collaboration through regular contact with the Medical, Administrative and Nursing Staff; support and practice the Leadership Standards of Excellence; assume 24 hour responsibility for the administrative management of designated patient care areas; develop and organize committees; oversee all committee activities and maintain communication and collaboration with all committee chairpersons; coordinate with the patient care team to maximize patient satisfaction; manage the development, implementation, evaluation, and improvement of policies and procedures that assure professional and clinical excellence in the provision of quality care to patients; access and utilize appropriate data in order to monitor unit operations and develop action plans for identified areas of improvement; manage and implement ongoing evaluation processes to assure compliance with regulatory agency standards and an environment of safety; acts as a member of a care management team by assisting in the development, implementation and monitoring the nursing process with patients and families; develop, implement, and evaluate goals for each patient care service which support department, hospital and system goals; facilitate, coach, and empower staff in the continuous improvement of patient care services within each patient care area/service; utilize and apply knowledge of clinical care, acute clinical care, emergency response procedures, patient/family education, patient advocacy activities, patient assessment techniques, medication management and quality management systems to perform assigned duties; manage and ensure documented compliance with educational and regulatory compliance measures; manage, investigate and implement strategies for resolution of documented quality and safety issues; utilize stakeholders in assigned area to create and develop a shared vision and culture consistent with nursing organizational and renewal principles; collaborates with the unit CNS and directs the unit educators to plan, implement, and evaluate on-going unit educational programs; actively support the recruitment of new staff in collaboration with Human Resources; complete specific and on-going mandatory and developmental leadership learning opportunities both within and outside of the Henry Ford System; represent organizational and department at all appropriate local, state, and national professional meetings; develop and implement operational and capital budget in collaboration with the appropriate medical staff, Nursing Administrator, and Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer; manage and assure department finance goals consistent with budgeted projections, and explain unforeseen variances; and maintain awareness and responsibility for divisional and global budgets and resource allocations for safe and optimal patient care.

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (will accept equivalent foreign degree);
Experience: Two (2) years in the position above, as a Charge Nurse, as an Assistant Clinical Manager, as a House Manager, as a Clinical Coordinator, as a Clinical Unit Leader, as a Staff Nurse (RN), as a Head Nurse, or in a related occupation;
Other Requirements: Experience must include two (2) years use of all the following: clinical care, acute clinical care, emergency response procedures, patient/family education, patient advocacy activities, patient assessment techniques, medication management and quality management systems; and must possess valid State of Michigan Nursing License.
