Duties
The CDC utilizes Direct/Expedited Hire Authorities to fill vacancies in a variety of occupations. This vacancy is a REPOSITORY of applications. Duties and responsibilities vary and may increase according to the grade level of the position. Applications may be periodically referred to hiring managers both during the open period and after the closing date. Because of the large number of applications anticipated, applicants' status will not be updated.
This public notice will be used to fill the positions listed below at multiple grade levels and locations.
- Physician, 0602: Grades GP-11 through GP-15
Applicant Expiration: Applications will expire 4 months after submission/resubmission. To remain eligible for consideration, reapplying is required.
Duties may include but are not limited to:
- Providing support to the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) in public health research and analyses.
- Performing duties involving the evaluation of medical research or the identification of causes or sources of disease or disease outbreaks.
- Applying epidemiological principles and/or procedures to investigate, review, analyze, and/or determine the cause(s) of problems, situations, inconsistencies, and/or issues related to programmatic degradation or systemic or causal parameters.
- Researching findings which impact significant public health programs, issues, problems, processes, and procedures and/or the transmission of other causation of disease or public health issues or situations.

Conditions of Employment
- US Citizenship is required.
- Males born after December 31, 1959 must be registered or exempt from Selective Service.
- May be subject to a Background/Security Investigation. Security clearance level may differ from the position announced when certificates are shared.
- CDC participates in the USCIS Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify). If selected, CDC will determine your employment eligibility using your social security number.
- Direct deposit is required.
- One-year probationary period may be required.
- This position may be subject to a Collective Bargaining Agreement.
- This public notice may be used to fill supervisory or managerial positions and selectees may be subject to 1 year supervisory or managerial probationary period.
- Positions may be filled as permanent or term appointments.
- This position may be subject to the OGE Financial Disclosure requirements of the Ethics in Government Act of 1978 (P.L. 95-521).
- In accordance with Executive Order 12564 of September 15, 1986, The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is A Drug-Free Federal Workplace. This position may require a Drug Test and be subject to Random Drug Testing.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
Degree: Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada. This degree must have been accredited by a recognized accrediting body.
Licensure: For all grade levels and positions, applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
Graduate Training: A candidate must have had at least 1 year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting, i.e., a 1-year internship or the first year of a residency program in a hospital or an institution accredited for such training.
- An internship program involves broadly based clinical practice.
- A residency program involves training in a specialized field of medicine.
- A fellowship program involves advanced training in a given medical specialty.
Additional Requirements for Grades GP-12 and Above
- For GP-12 -- 2 years of graduate training in the specialty of the position to be filled or equivalent experience and training.
- For GP-13 -- 3 years of graduate training in the specialty of the position to be filled or equivalent experience and training.
- For GP-14 -- 4 years of graduate training in the specialty of the position to be filled or equivalent experience and training.
- For GP-15 -- 5 years of graduate training in the specialty of the position to be filled or equivalent experience and training.
Promotion potential: Promotion to the next grade level is at management's discretion.
Education
A copy of your transcripts or equivalent documentation is required for positions with an education requirement.
FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements.
