Position Objective: Provide services as a Biologist in support of the overall functions of the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Initiate development of novel immune assays for cellular and serological screening.
- Develop and improve existing methodology and generation of novel research experiments while maintaining detailed documentation.
- Use established SOPs for assay execution.
- Troubleshoot assays and adjust scientific methodology to correct problems or deficiencies in a research project or experiment.
- Maintain accurate laboratory records to ensure proper retention of scientific data.
- Maintain reagent and laboratory supplies inventories.
- Attend staff meetings and present experimental data when required.
- Perform data analysis and use analytical software.
- Perform high-throughput evaluations by binding and pseudoneutralization.
- Isolate by flow cytometry, sequence, and profile probe-specific B-cells.
- Support end-point testing for pre-clinical and phase I clinical trials.
- Process and inventory human samples consisting of various biofluids.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree with 3 years’ experience OR Master’s degree with 2 years’ experience in the techniques listed above. Degrees should be related to Biomedical sciences, Biology, Immunology or science-related field.
- Proficient in a diverse set of clinical research techniques such as multiplexed immunoassay methodologies, pseudovirus neutralization assays, Elispot Assays, flow cytometry, single cell sorting and RNA-seq library prep.
- Experience with automated systems such as liquid handlers and high-throughput robotic instruments.
- Familiarity with GLP or GMP and GCLP.
- Processing of sera, plasma and PBMCs ideal but not essential.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Prism and Excel at a minimum.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Ability to write SOPs, evaluation and development reports and analytical plans.
- Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with non-technical and technical staff.
- Detail-oriented and possess strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and projects.
