WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHER
The Forest and Watershed Health Manager develops, administers and advances the goals of forest and watershed health in New Mexico, including the Rio Grande Water Fund (RGWF); managing the programs, plans, methods and partnerships across this large-scale geographic area and as part of larger landscape initiatives such as the Conservancy’s Western Dry Forest and Fire Initiatives. The Forest and Watershed Health Manager works closely with Freshwater, Lands, Indigenous Right Relations and Science programs to ensure project integration and the achievement of outcomes providing multiple benefits.
WE'RE LOOKING FOR YOU
The Forest and Watershed Health Manager provides technical leadership and support to the New Mexico business unit (NMBU) by creating and engaging in a broad array of strategies directed towards maintaining and improving forest and watershed health and resilience in the context of broad-scale climate change. This includes planning, directing, and implementing the agreements, projects, monitoring, partnerships and planning necessary to achieve the Rio Grande Water Fund goal of restoring 600,000 acres of at-risk forests while also contributing to TNC’s 2030 goals.
WHAT YOU'LL BRING
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- BA/BS, law or business degree and 5 years’ experience in natural resource management, fire ecology, forestry conservation biology or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience in the design and implementation of forest and watershed restoration projects and familiarity with specific techniques to promote watershed health and resilience.
- Experience negotiating complex agreements and managing project budgets and timelines.
- Experience communicating with the public and/or media both in writing and verbally.
- Experience using applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Web Browsers.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Multi-lingual skills and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated.
- Experience in capacity building, facilitation and the establishment of collaboratives to achieve shared conservation outcomes.
- Ability to explain conservation practices to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Knowledge of current trends and practices related to climate resilience and climate mitigation in forested ecosystems.
- Excellent communication skills via written, spoken and graphical means in English and other relevant languages.

SALARY INFORMATION
The hiring pay range for a candidate selected for this position is generally within the range of $71,500 – $75,850 for annual base salary. This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA. Where a successful candidate’s actual pay will fall within this range will be based on a variety of factors, including, for example, the candidate's location, qualifications, specific skills, and experience.
