Job Description: Critical Care Charge Nurse
The Critical Care Charge Nurse oversees clinical functions related to the delivery of patient care, the quality of nursing practice, and the standards of care for the assigned shift.
Key Responsibilities:
- Direct patient care activities by:
- Assigning staff and functions on the unit based on the Charge RN’s assessment of patient needs.
- Considering the relative skills and abilities of staff.
- Maintaining clinical nursing practice skills and unit-specific expertise.
- Performing professional nursing duties incorporating:
- Psychomotor skills.
- Age-appropriate cognitive skills of the patient/family/significant other.
- Assessing, planning, intervening, and advocating for the patient on an ongoing basis throughout the continuum of care.
- Ensuring break relief and providing coverage for the shift.
- Troubleshooting and resolving issues as they arise.
- Functioning as a role model and clinical resource to staff and patients.
- Supervising and directing staff RNs, LVNs, and CNAs in their daily job functions.
- Providing meaningful input for employee counseling, evaluation, scheduling, and discipline.
