Job Description Summary:
RN - Medical Unit provides primary care to patients, including assessment, treatment, care planning, and medical care evaluation.
Our patients are all Med/Surg acute care level patients, coming from the ER with various medical issues or trauma that doesn’t require ICU level care. Patients may also arrive from a doctor’s office or another hospital, or downgrade from the ICU or IMC units. We manage overflow for the surgical unit, so patients may come post-op after orthopedic, urology, or neurosurgery.
Common diagnoses seen on the medical units include:
- COPD
- CHF
- Emphysema
- CAD, DM, ETOH W/D
- Dementia
- Failure to thrive
- Falls with or without injury
- Kidney failure and patients on dialysis
- Sepsis, UTI’s
- GI bleeds and various wounds
Patients on our unit can be scheduled for many different tests and procedures including: CT, MRI, x-ray, EGD, ERCP, colonoscopy, thoracentesis, paracentesis, drains placement, surgical procedures, hip fracture pinnings, dialysis catheter placement, and may even be transported across campus for radiation treatment.
Qualifications:
- Current Montana RN license or a multi-state compact license with authorization to practice nursing within Montana; BSN degree preferred.
- Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in a similar position within a medical setting (e.g., physician office, clinic, or hospital) preferred.
- Knowledge of professional nursing theory, medical terminology, and principles of professional nursing practice.
- Healthcare Provider (HCP) CPR and/or BLS certification required.
- Additional certifications may be required as applicable to assigned area(s).
- Understanding of confidentiality laws governing the provider-patient relationship, including HIPAA guidelines.
- Knowledge of equipment, supplies, and instruments used in a medical office.
- Knowledge of OSHA rules and regulations, established protocol for storing hazardous materials.
- Excellent organizational skills, detail-oriented, self-starter, critical thinking skills, and ability to function as part of a team as well as independently.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to manage sensitive situations with tact and professionalism.
- Possess and maintain computer skills including working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
Job Specific Duties:
- Develops, implements, and coordinates individualized, goal-directed nursing care to patients.
- Maintains nursing standards of care and responds to changing workloads and patient conditions.
- Transcribes and implements provider orders and treatments accurately and efficiently.
- Practices infection control procedures as applicable.
- Identifies, evaluates, and reports changes in patients’ physical and mental conditions.
- Documents all patient encounters according to organizational standards.
- Provides individual instruction and education to patients and families concerning health and medical needs.
- Assesses and anticipates patient needs and coordinates necessary interventions.
Maintains regular and consistent attendance as scheduled by department leadership.

Schedule:
Logan Health operates 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Schedules may be adjusted as needed.
