Job Summary of the MRI Technologist
The MRI Technologist shall be responsible for performing MRI - Magnetic Resonance Imaging procedures in accordance with standards and practice set forth by the Medical Director of Radiology and Department Policies and Procedures. Provides training for Level One MR Safety Trained Personnel. The MRI Technologist demonstrates knowledge of human structure and functions, patient care, positioning, principles of electromagnetic and computer sciences, magnetic protection, and specialized techniques. Applies appropriate patient care and recognizes patient conditions essential for successful completion of the procedure. The MRI Technologist will also perform duties of Medical Radiographer when not performing MRI exams.
Responsibilities of the MRI Technologist
- Demonstrate excellence by consistently producing MRI images of diagnostic quality on patients ranging from Neonatal to Geriatric.
- Follow established scanning protocols and operate the MRI scanner and related equipment efficiently and effectively.
- Complete quality scans in a timely manner, effectively organizing and prioritizing workflow to meet STAT and urgent demands.
- Demonstrate proficiency in scanning trauma, acute & challenging patients; possess skill to modify positioning and scanning factors when standard cannot be performed.
- Possess knowledge of disease processes and image these findings adequately; communicate them to the Radiologist.
- Demonstrate accountability for clinical responsibilities and safety practices in the MR department.
Qualifications of the MRI Technologist
EDUCATION:
- Graduate of an America Medical Association-approved program in Radiologic Technology.
- Completion of courses in MRI - Magnetic Resonance Imaging and cross-sectional anatomy.
EXPERIENCE:
- One year of experience performing MRI – Magnetic Resonance Imaging procedures.
LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
- Certified in Radiology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists – ARRT (R) or Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) by the Association of Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS).
- MRI post-primary certifications required 1 year post MRI assignment.
- Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date.
