We have one position for a one-year clinical medical retina and imaging fellow starting in July 2025 at New England Eye Center / Tufts University School of Medicine. The program offers intensive exposure to medical retina and retinal imaging technology.
The fellowship provides comprehensive training in the diagnosis and management of medical retina conditions. The fellows participate in active clinics where a complete range of retinal pathology is seen including retinal degenerations, tumors, uveitis, retinopathy of prematurity, and disorders of the vitreomacular interface. Large numbers of patients are also seen with diabetic retinopathy, retinal venous occlusions, and age-related macular degeneration. Exposure to novel retinal diagnostic imaging including prototype OCT research protocols and office-based retinal procedures is a unique feature of this program. The medical retina fellow actively participates in numerous procedures including but not limited to intravitreal injections, laser photocoagulation, PDT, pneumatic retinopexy, and cataract surgery. They also work closely with residents and medical students with ample opportunity for teaching.
In addition, fellows participate as sub-investigators in clinical trials that are being done at the New England Eye Center. They are encouraged to develop protocols, write articles for journals, and participate in basic research at Tufts. A major area of research includes using optical coherence tomography to study a variety of retinal and choroidal pathology. We have eight retinal faculty members with a broad range of experience and clinical interests with whom the fellow interacts.
Please encourage any of your interested residents or fellows to apply to our medical retinal fellowship which is not part of the SF Match. If you have questions or require further information, please contact Ashley Belk, Caroline Baumal, MD, or Michelle Liang, MD at (617) 636-1777.
