Job Description
This position provides leadership for the functions of the department, provides management and expertise for the information system modules supporting these functions, and assists in the maintenance of the department’s website. This position also coordinates and oversees the functions of the Financial Aid Office, provides administrative support to the Director, and acts as the Director in their absence.
The employee will deliver high-quality, student-centered assistance to applicants, students, and their families at Rochester Community and Technical College (RCTC). This position directly supports the RCTC mission by helping students and parents access and understand various forms of financial aid and assists applicants and students who need added support to navigate complex financial aid situations. This position provides advising in a variety of settings, both on- and off-campus, and will be called upon to assist with high-level financial aid questions, meet with students who have concerns or are requesting special consideration, and function as a liaison to other areas (both internal and external to the College) where the student may benefit from additional services.
Minimum Qualifications
- Two-year degree or higher or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Three (3) years experience in a college or university financial aid office or in advocating for students and families as they navigate financial aid processes.
- Customer service skills sufficient to provide prompt, welcoming, courteous, and accurate information in person, on the phone, and through e-mail and other written correspondence. Must be capable of working with confidential materials, have a propensity for detail and accuracy, and be capable of maintaining satisfactory performance under pressure and in stressful situations.
- Experience in developing and delivering public presentations to both small and large audiences.
- Knowledge and skill using Microsoft Office (word processing, spreadsheet, presentation) programs to produce correspondence, spreadsheets, and reports in an efficient and timely manner. Must also possess skills in database management sufficient to perform data entry, create queries, and generate reports to support the use of data in decision-making.
- Commitment to diversity as well as a demonstrated ability to work successfully with persons of diverse backgrounds including sensitivity to their needs and concerns.
- Knowledge of math sufficient to apply equations and if/then formula logic, add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers, fractions, decimals, calculate percentages, and use simple formulas.
- Communication skills sufficient to read, speak, and write effectively.
Preferred Qualifications
- Extensive knowledge of federal and state financial aid rules and regulations.
- Expertise in assessing student needs and coordinating services to retain students.
- Knowledge of ISRS, COD, CPS, NSLDS, and other financial aid-related websites and software.
- Previous experience working with R2T4, Satisfactory Academic Progress, and reconciliation of federal and state accounts.
- Familiarity with Minnesota State College and University system and RCTC policies and procedures.
- Demonstrated organizational and time management skills to prioritize and meet deadlines on simultaneous projects.
Work Shift (Hours / Days of work)
M-F/8:00 to 4:30
