Willamette Veterinary Hospital (WVH) is offering an internship in small animal emergency medicine to exceptional candidates!
Willamette Veterinary Hospital (WVH) is a full-service, AAHA accredited, small animal general practice and 24/7 emergency hospital. Our state-of-the-art hospital is fully equipped with an in-house lab, digital radiography, digital dental radiography, ultrasound, Snyder oxygen cage, blood products, therapy laser, and CO2 laser. We use Cornerstone for our electronic medical records. You can take a tour of our hospital at www.wilvet.com. Our goal is to build confidence steadily and skills in surgery, medicine, ICU management, and emergency care, as well as additional interests that you may have. We have worked hard to build an experienced team that supports collaboration and a healthy work-life balance. Our doctors are well-supported with a minimum of 3:1 support staff to doctor ratio! We have dedicated ER technicians and ICU technicians, to provide the best patient care and continuity of care. We are a referral centre for the community offering an euphoric standard of medical & surgical care, intentionally paired with strong emphasis on exceptional client and patient service. We offer advanced services in ultrasound, echocardiography, endoscopy, point of care diagnosis, & surgery. We maintain a blood bank. We value engagement with the community. We offer the opportunity for incoming interns to pursue advanced US skills during their intern year.
Our internship program provides new graduates interested in emergency medicine with the opportunity to work under the mentorship of experienced emergency doctors and staff. Interns learn how to be competent and confident emergency clinicians via hands-on experience with medical and surgical cases as they provide direct case management while under close supervision from experienced practitioners. We emphasise development of skills in patient assessment, building diagnostic and treatment plans, as well as effective communication with clients, patients, staff and colleagues. We have a busy and diverse caseload of both hospitalised and outpatient cases, with the capability for 24/7 hospitalisation. We have comprehensive in-house diagnostic capabilities including radiographs, CT, ultrasound, and blood work, as well as a surgical OR, endoscopy, and isolation facilities.
Our goal is to work in a team-based environment that fosters respect, collaboration, and compassion in order to provide the best care possible to every patient, every day, every night, every time. We meet as a doctor team monthly to discuss cases and our goals for our hospital, and we further enhance our interns’ first-year learning with weekly teaching rounds. We value a work-life balance and believe in fostering an environment where you can practice top-tier medicine and have the energy to enjoy life outside of work.
