PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
We are seeking a bright and motivated individual for a Research Technician II position in the laboratory of Jason Griffith, M.D., Ph.D., in the Center for Immunology and Inflammatory Diseases (CIID).The CIID is a multidisciplinary research center whose goal is to discover new molecular pathways in autoimmune and inflammatory diseases.
Many diseases are caused or worsened by immune system dysfunction.In the lung, in particular, respiratory viruses such as influenza cause much of their pathology by unleashing dysregulated immune responses while allergic diseases such as asthma are caused by immune activation against harmless environmental proteins. Our laboratory studies the initial cellular and molecular mechanisms leading to these dysregulated immune responses in the lung and other tissues.In order to do this, we utilize a wide variety of research techniques including gene expression analysis, flow cytometry and microscopy.We are looking for a research technician to play an interactive and integral role in these studies with work directly supervised by a senior post-doctoral fellow in the lab.
Candidates for this position should have at least one year of relevant laboratory experience and a strong interest in immunology and molecular biology.Candidates interested in a two year or longer commitment are strongly preferred.
Duties will include, but are not exclusive to:
· molecular biological techniques, including DNA and RNA isolation, PCR, and quantitative PCR
· isolation and purification of primary cells from mouse samples
· flow cytometry
· immunofluorescence staining for general and confocal microscopy
· general husbandry and maintenance of mouse colonies
· performance of mouse models of influenza and asthma
· participation in general laboratory responsibilities, including ordering and organizing laboratory supplies and ensuring maintenance of equipment
EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s Degree, with coursework in related fields (such as Immunology and Molecular Biology or Biochemistry) strongly preferred
EXPERIENCE:
· o ne or more years of relevant paid laboratory experience
· proficiency with computer software, including Power Point and Excel
· must be reliable, organized, and able to work independently as well as with other members of the team and research center
· excellent communication and interpersonal skills
