Position Summary:
The Associate Director of Behavioral Health is responsible for collaborating with the Director of Behavioral Health to oversee the recruitment, on-boarding, and individual and group supervision of doctoral-level supervisees providing psychotherapy to clients of all ages across LifeMoves. The Associate Director will also provide didactic trainings to students in areas of interest, such as conceptualizing cases from preferred treatment modalities or instruction in particular evidence-based interventions.
Practicum student recruitment and selection:
- Assist the Director, Behavioral Health with recruiting students from Bay Area universities and professional schools (e.g., attending annual Practicum Fairs and providing informational materials to prospective students and universities).
- Review practicum applications and interview prospective students for practicum positions each academic year.
- Offer informational interviews to provide applicants with an overview of practicum duties and opportunities as needed.
Training:
- Assist the Director of Behavioral Health Program with updating the practicum handbook annually to reflect policy and procedure changes.
- Organize site visits for students who are providing services to clients at shelter sites.
- Collaborate with the Directors of Behavioral Health and Social Work to create a calendar of didactic trainings for doctoral- and master’s-level practicum students, which includes recruiting and scheduling appropriate trainers.
- Lead several trainings per academic year that are consistent with the Associate Director’s skills and practicum students’ needs.
- Conduct occasional behavioral health-related trainings for LifeMoves non-clinical staff.
Supervision:
- Assist the Director of Behavioral Health Program with providing and/or arranging for individual and group supervision for practicum students.
- Meet with students on an as needed basis for additional support.
- Review video/audio recordings of each individual supervisee’s therapy sessions at least 3x/year.
- Review, sign, and assist trainees in editing documentation (e.g., intake assessments, psychotherapy progress notes, etc.) to ensure quality and compliance with organizational standards.
- Provide ongoing, regular feedback to trainees on the quality and timeliness of their clinical work as well as their caseload.
- Solicit feedback from trainees regarding supervision and whether training needs are being met.
- Complete periodic student evaluations as required by schools.
- Communicate any concerns about the quality of supervisees’ work to the Director of Behavioral Health in a timely manner.
- Meet as needed with contracted supervisors to assess student progress.
- Respond to schools’ inquiries and contracts as needed.
- Monitor referrals for services, assuring their assignment to practicum students. Be available by phone to support students in addressing crises arising in their work.
Position Qualifications:
- PhD or PsyD in clinical or counseling psychology with a valid California license in psychology.
- Completion of 6 hours of supervision CE hours per license term required.
- Experience working with a disenfranchised population, treating individuals and families in crisis, especially those who have been traumatized. Extensive knowledge of clinical theory and significant experience in the practice of psychotherapy and clinical supervision.
- Knowledge and practice of evidence-based practices and feedback-informed care.
- Excellent communication skills and experience working with interdisciplinary teams.
- A strong foundation in the ideas and practices that promote diversity, equity, and inclusion; and a commitment to ongoing professional development in this area.
- Knowledge and experience in the assessment and treatment of severe mental illness, substance use, and/or complex trauma highly desired.
- Bilingual/multilingual skills are a plus.
