Job Objective:
Under the direction of Section Supervisor, Assistant Director and Director of Radiology, provides technical skills in the CT Department. Operates CT equipment to produce high-quality images, provides patient care, and assists with invasive and non-invasive procedures. Ensures delivery of quality health care and customer service that meets or exceeds expectations for patients, physicians, office staff, and visitors. Cordially and professionally greets all visitors, hospital, and professional staff.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Operates CT scanner, table, and gantry.
- Maintains optimal performance and safety of all CT equipment.
- Properly positions patients for CT examinations.
- Properly uses radiation protection for patients and staff.
- Follows established protocols and correctly performs ordered exams.
- Properly assesses patients' labs, medications, and allergy history.
- Assesses patients' orders and/or prescriptions for proper CT examination.
- Properly uses barium and iodinated oral contrast.
- Properly administers IV contrast, including proper assessment of IV site and use of power injector.
- Properly uses contrast warmer.
- Willing to work in any area and flexible in meeting the needs of the department.
- Completes examinations and executes PACS and RIS.
- Properly uses oxygen and suction equipment.
- Properly utilizes x-ray equipment in diagnostic modality.
- Properly uses and maintains crash cart, including crash cart log.
- Assists physicians with invasive and non-invasive procedures.
- Demonstrates knowledge regarding special needs and behaviors of age-specific groups.
- Participates in age-specific educational and training programs.
- Performs routine and special image reconstruction as needed.
- Utilizes minimizing radiation dose techniques.
- Effectively manages patient flow.
Non-Essential Duties:
- Schedules patient appointments.
- Transports patients as needed.
- Orders and stocks supplies.
- Answers telephones.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge:
- Knowledge of CT protocols.
- Knowledge of diagnostic equipment.
- Knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy.
- Knowledge of contrast differences and the ability to identify contrast reactions.
- Knowledge of radiation protection for patients and staff.
- Ability to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of duty to report behavior standards and the importance of seeking guidance from a supervisor regarding possible corporate compliance issues.
Skills:

- Ability to assess patients' lab values, medications, and allergy history.
- Ability to properly position the patient for CT exams.

- Ability to use oxygen and suction equipment and maintain crash cart.

Education and Experience:
Education:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Graduate from ARRT Accredited Radiological Technology Program
Experience:
- 2 years experience preferred.
- PACS and RIS experience.
Required Licensure and/or Certifications:
- CRT from State of California.
- RT ARRT.
- Fluoroscopy certification.
- ARRT in Computed Tomography.
- BLS certification.
- Venipuncture certification.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Work performed in confined area, noisy environment, cool temperature, dim lighting, radiation exposure, chemical handling required, call required, and stressful conditions.
- Able to perform duties in a normal hospital radiology department environment.
- May be required to work in areas that include high noise levels, cool temperatures, dim lighting, and radiation exposure.
- Position requires frequent standing and walking with occasional bending, twisting, squatting, kneeling, and lifting as related to patient care.
- Job requires handling of patients.
- Position requires occasional lifting of 10-25 lbs and pushing/pulling of 21-35 lbs.
