The role of a Phlebotomist is instrumental within our healthcare system. This is an intrinsic position performing venipuncture, specimen labeling, and centrifuging, which are crucial for accurate medical analysis and patient care. This full-time role plays a pivotal part in direct patient interaction and specimen handling which are the cornerstones of medical laboratory work. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform blood draws with proficiency utilizing both straight and butterfly needles.
- Label specimens accurately and operate centrifuge according to the requirements of the test order.
- Maintain an organized and clean work environment, adhering to sanitation protocols.
- Comply with all OSHA and DEP regulations to ensure safe handling of specimens and equipment.
- Update patient information and maintain detail-oriented records to ensure data accuracy.
- Split and freeze specimens as dictated by test protocols to maintain specimen integrity during transportation.
- Attend training and refresher courses annually to stay updated on best practices and technological advancements.
- Answer phone calls and address inquiries, providing information and peace of mind to patients and healthcare providers.
Minimum Position Qualifications:
- Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of Maryland.
- Minimum of 6 months' experience in venipuncture in a dynamic lab or hospital setting.
- High School Diploma or GED is required.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and capable of learning new software systems.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with patients and staff.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills are essential.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in a supervisory role or a setting that required leadership skills.
- Additional certifications related to healthcare or laboratory operations.
- Previous experience handling sensitive or confidential information.
- Capability to train or mentor new staff as required.
