At McCormick, we manufacture, market, and distribute spices, seasoning mixes, condiments, and other flavourful products. We are currently looking for an enthusiastic R&D Learner. This position will support the New Product Development Team throughout the overall product commercialization process (from product development to customer launch phase) with the key responsibilities of compounding and application of seasonings at benchtop level as per set procedures and Customer needs.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
- Execute compounding activities to ensure seasonings are blended as per outlined blending and sequencing procedure to avail samples for evaluation and Customer submissions.
- Conduct application to the appropriate base product (snacks & coatings) as set out by Customer Brief/ Procedure to avail samples for evaluation and Customer submissions.
- Manage NPD samples for retention purposes and ensure Base availability and appropriate storage thereof.
- Collaborate with Product Development Technologists for the management of samples for sensory/ consumer research, shelf-life and sensory tests.
- Monitor laboratory stock of raw materials and consumables.
- Ensure that stock levels are sufficient and within set shelf-life.
- Conduct daily scale checks and calibrations on lab equipment.
- Manage raw material replenishment with the factory as per set procedure.
- View & Print SAP RD formulations for blending purposes.
- Ensure formulations are appropriately discarded post blending and application.
- Attend set company-wide Meetings and periodically chair Departmental Meetings.
- Attend Supplier Presentations when required.
- Support the Team with all courier activities (local and abroad) to ensure Customer Submissions are completed.
- Participate in Internal Sensory Evaluation activities to develop a strong awareness of the sensory attributes of new products and raw materials.
- Support Product Development Technologists to coordinate internal evaluations of newly developed products to ascertain required modifications.
- Support the PPI function with functionality testing locally.
- Support the PPI function in coordinating samples to be sent to the PPI team in Haddenham and PepsiCo USA.
- Support the PPI Team with seasoning implementation in the factory. This entails partnering with PPI to coordinate activities in support of Scale-up/ First Time Order, verifying factory scale-up weights, checking that correct raw materials are used as stated in SAP RD and SAP formulations and ensuring the correct blending sequence is adhered to.
- Support the R&D Team with chemical analysis (salt, moisture, pH, sieving) under the guidance of the QA Team.
- It may be required to complete more general tasks from time to time to support the general business as appropriate.
