The PRO-WASH & SCALE Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Team at Save the Children seeks to host an intern for Fall 2024 and Winter 2025. This virtual internship offers a chance to utilize your communication and research skills in supporting global capacity strengthening and learning initiatives focused on water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH).
As an intern, you will develop a comprehensive understanding of Save the Children's WASH projects and engage with the broader WASH and food security community, which includes various USAID-funded partners and Global WASH Cluster partners.
Your main tasks will be to support work on a human-centered design toolkit and to work with the Global WASH Cluster partners on WASH related literature and web-based research, information analysis and synthesis, qualitative and quantitative data analysis, reporting, and visualization.

What You’ll be Doing (Essential Duties, Responsibilities and Impact)
- Collaborate closely with the PRO-WASH & SCALE WASH team and partners to create a user-friendly WASH human-centered design toolbox. Responsibilities encompass working with the team to draft concise descriptions of case studies, tools, and approaches, editing current content, tools, tips sheets, and templates for human-centered design, gathering examples from various websites and partners, and helping to create visuals to make the product easier to use.
- Contribute to activities with the Global WASH Cluster’s Hygiene Promotion in Emergencies and Climate Change and WASH Technical Working Groups, such as helping to support webinars, writing up lessons learned, and compiling training materials.
- Contribute to literature scans and desk mappings on topics related to WASH as needed (e.g., WASH & climate, mental health, water resource management, evidence-based approaches, localization).
- Support the team to update technical resource libraries such as the FSN Network and the Global WASH Cluster Technical Working Group libraries by using web-based searches to identify WASH training materials, tools, reports, learning briefs, videos, and courses, and reviewing, organizing, and tagging the identified resources with key words and short descriptions.
- Support basic qualitative and/or quantitative data analysis and reporting, such as cleaning data, coding data, conducting descriptive analyses, and drafting reports, PowerPoints, or visualizations based on the data.
- Attend regular Department of Global Health WASH meetings, PRO-WASH & SCALE team meetings, and Global WASH Cluster Working Group workstream meetings.
- Meet with WASH and food security team members.
- Have the opportunity to engage with other departments at Save the Children in informal virtual coffee chats, as interested.
- Learn more about WASH and food security by attending PRO-WASH & SCALE’s and partners’ online events.
Required Qualifications
- Must be actively enrolled in an Associate, Bachelor, Master, or other post high school education program, or have graduated within 6 months of the intern program start date.
- Possess strong written skills, solid interpersonal skills, and the ability to work within a team.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Strong interest in adult education, behavior change, user/human-centered design, design thinking, climate change, water, sanitation and hygiene, or communications in global health.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Currently eligible to work in the U.S.

Classification: Paid Intern
Part-time: 16-24 hours per week (up to 8 hours max per day)
Dates: September 23, 2024 - April 11, 2025
Compensation: $17 / hour (interns only)
