Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Clinic Services Representative II for the Surgery Clinic at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
The RWJMG Clinical Services Representative II performs administrative tasks as assigned to support effective and efficient office operations. Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- Answers the telephone with a pleasant demeanor, always identifying self and location.
- Competently performs the following financial functions based on assignment: Scheduling, pre-registration, recording patient arrival, administering financial and HIPAA paperwork, obtaining necessary signatures, receiving referral and pre-certification numbers; performs online insurance verification to assist patient with their payment options.
- Advises patients regarding preparation of necessary forms; counsels patients regarding paperwork requirements.
- Maintains Computer Databases entering changes in demographic, insurance, and other information as required.
- Collects co-pays, and posts in the financial system; administers receipts and prepares necessary paperwork for later reconciliation of the batch transactions.
- Processes, researches and answers any verbal or written routine patient billing inquiries in a timely manner. Refers more complex inquiries to the appropriate individual or area in accordance with established policies and procedures.

Work Arrangement: This position requires a fully on-site work arrangement.
Minimum Education and Experience:
- Two (2) years of progressively responsible clerical experience required, preferably in a physician office or other medical setting.
- Prior experience accessing and retrieving information from computer database required.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Strong oral and written communications skills.
- Ability to work in a stressful environment while maintaining a professional demeanor and customer service orientation.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with billing and collections software.
- Prior experience in billing and collections or other business-oriented processes.
- Familiarity with medical terminology.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
- Physical Demands: Position requires standing, walking, sitting, use of the hands to finger, handle or feel, talk and hear 2/3 of the time, reach with hands and arms over 1/3 of the time, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl under 1/3 of the time. Position requires lifting 1/3 of the time up to 10 pounds, and under 1/3 of the time up to 25 pounds.
- Work Environment: Moderate noise environment with some exposure (less than 1/3 of the time) to blood borne pathogens requiring the use of personal protective equipment; some potential exposure (less than 1/3 of the time) to hazardous waste.
