Job Description
The Director of the Academic and Career Experience (ACE) Center provides the direction, goals, agendas, and implementation strategies that promote and enhance student success through academic advising and career services, including but not limited to degree planning, academic and career advising, administration and organization of student employment, career counseling, career assessment, student development workshops, employer outreach and job development. Supports the goals of the University through the management of a quality, comprehensive advising and career development programming designed to meet the needs of students. This position reports to the Executive Director of Student Success.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides supervision, visionary leadership, training, and guidance for office staff and student employees in the areas of career counseling tools and assessments, best practices in career counseling, job search techniques, event coordination, employer relations, and professional development.
- Develop short and long-range goals to ensure the continuance of quality programs and enhance the development of new programs and services in academic advising and career development.
- Collaborate with academic affairs personnel (e.g., faculty, deans, VPAA) and other departments in the implementation and evaluation of academic advising and career services.
- Recruit, select, train, and supervise professional academic advising staff; design and organize training content and delivery methods in accordance with university policies and National Association of Academic Advising (NACADA) guidelines; ensure ongoing professional development for academic and faculty advisors; and, facilitate collaboration between professional and faculty advisors, to include processes promoting the successful transition of students to departmental faculty advisors.
- Works directly with academic deans, chairs, faculty, and alumni in creating and establishing broad based and experiential internships for students; assists with creating internship policies, programs, and learning objectives for students.
- Direct academic advising efforts and supervise departmental staff, setting performance standards and accountabilities.
- Administers and interprets career assessments; provides individual and group career counseling and/or career advising.
- Assist in managing department budgets for effective utilization of financial resources.
- Develops programs and services to meet the needs of the University's growing population of students enrolled in on-line programs and/or at off-campus sites.
- Develops new programs and services, as appropriate, to meet the needs of students and alumni when academic programs change, as well as community collaboration with local and regional employers (i.e., career fairs and internships).
- Assists students and alumni with resume preparation and revision, developing their interview skills, job search and other career related needs.
- Comply with all state, system, and university policies, regulations, rules, procedures, guidelines, and directives in a timely manner and adhere to confidentiality policies (FERPA).

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 10 years of related experience working with student success, retention programs, and student affairs.
- Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
- Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to present information clearly and concisely.
Preferred Qualifications
- Earned graduate degree from an institution accredited by an organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
- Demonstrated success in academic advising, degree planning and/or career services.
- Demonstrated success in working on a team.
- Demonstrated success in project management/leadership.
- Evidence of strong interpersonal skills.
- Demonstration of high levels of internal motivation, high energy, self-confidence, and sense of urgency required for successful implementation of programs and initiatives.

- Ability to travel and work beyond normal office hours.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
