As delegated by a registered professional nurse or an advanced practice registered nurse or as directed by a physician assistant, physician, dentist or podiatric physician, and includes all of the following and other activities requiring a like skill level for which the LPN is properly trained.

Licensed Practical Nurse Education and Experience Requirements:
- Completion of state approved training program (generally in the form of a diploma, certificate, or associate degree)
- LPN license (pass NCLEX-PN exam)
- BLS certification 1-2 years recent nursing experience preferred
JOB DUTIES
- Conducts focused nursing assessment and contributes to the ongoing comprehensive nursing assessment of the patient performed by the RN.
- Collaborates in the development and modification of the RN's comprehensive nursing plan of care for all types of patients.
- Implements aspects of the plan of care.
- Participates in health teaching and counseling to promote, attain, and maintain the optimum health level of patients.
- Serves as an advocate for the patient by communicating and collaborating with other health service personnel.
- Participates in the evaluation of patient responses to interventions.
- Communicates and collaborates with other health care professionals.
- Plans and manages patient care according to each patient’s needs.
- Interviews patients and records their medical history and physical condition.
- Obtains patient vital signs, including pulse, blood pressure, temperature, and respiration.
- Provides routine care for patients.
- Observes patients’ health.
- Reviews medical charts.
- Assists physicians and registered nurses.
- Communicates with patients and their families.
- Performs standard diagnostic procedures including EKG, phlebotomy, venipuncture, and Doppler.
- Administers medications (no IV medications).
- Provides wound care.
- Prepares and administers enemas.
- Assists with patient comfort.
- Monitors catheters.
