POSITION SUMMARY:
As a BMC Outpatient Pharmacy Technician, you will be preparing and distributing medications, operating and monitoring pharmacy automated technology systems, maintaining inventory, performing daily quality assurance audits, providing customer service, and maintaining pharmacy records. You will assist in training staff under the supervision and guidance of the Pharmacy Managers and Pharmacy Technician Supervisor to help further BMC’s mission of providing exceptional care for all.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Tasks:
- Performs data entry tasks such as prescription transcription and entry, resolves third-party insurance claim issues, and contacts providers as appropriate for the pharmacist while maintaining customer/patient confidentiality.
- Prepares prescription orders in a timely manner; retrieves, counts, measures, and prepares medications, solutions, ointments, and other compounds as directed. Ensures all work is checked by a pharmacist.
- Supports the service needs of the pharmacist relative to pharmacy services and maximized patient care outcomes, such as ensuring the prescription is dispensed to the correct patient at the point-of-sale in a professional and courteous manner.
Patient Care and Safety:
- Communicates to pharmacists and/or pharmacy technician supervisor on malfunctioning equipment and unsafe working conditions.
Administrative:
- Attends and participates in hospital and other management training and development workshops.
- Must have/maintain national technician certification through PTCB or exCPT.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Requires a high school diploma or GED.
- Must be registered as a Pharmacy Technician with the MA Board of Pharmacy by the hire date (Pharmacy Interns are not required to hold CPhT certification).
- Must also have national certification from Pharmacy Tech Certification Board (PTCB) or Exam of Certified Pharmacy Techs (exCPT), or within 6 months from the start date.
- Pharmacy students who have completed 2 years of education in an approved college/school of pharmacy are eligible for pharmacy internship and may be waived for the required experience.
- 6 months - 1 year of work experience preferred.
