The Veatch lab in the Translational Science and Therapeutics Division is looking for a highly motivated Research Technician to support the development of immunotherapy for cancer. The Veatch lab is focused on development of novel cellular therapies for solid tumors, and studies mouse cancer models as well as human samples. We use viral transduction and CRISPR based methods to engineer human and mouse T cells, and use Fluorescence activated cell sorting and bulk and single cell sequencing to analyze samples from mouse models and cancer patients. This individual will have the opportunity to work with a variety of cutting-edge cellular and molecular research techniques. This person will be responsible for maintaining meticulous records and organizing and reporting on experimental results. Experience with FACS and mouse handling and procedures preferred.
Responsibilities
Research Technician II:
- Identify methodological problems in research protocols and implement modifications to optimize experimental results.
- Prepare and present written or oral progress reports concerning studies including assembly, organization, and interpretation of data.
- Assist in the design and implementation of experiments; may be responsible for the performance of individual research project.
- Conduct literature reviews to assist in determining most suitable methods to be used in research.
- Assist in publication of results by proofreading, editing, and contributing ideas.
- May perform statistical analyses, manage research databases.
- Other duties as assigned.
Research Technician III:
Performs the duties of the Research Technician II plus:
- May lead or supervise other laboratory personnel and be responsible for the daily operation of the laboratory.
- Collaborate with primary investigator and assist in designing experiments; examine proposals to determine projects and methodologies best suited to research objectives and the overall goals of the laboratory.
- Summarize and write for publication or presentation the results of research projects, often as co-author or author. Edit and write reports of research.
- Consult with the Principal Investigator and others in the scientific community on problems and related projects.
- Determine the most suitable methods to be used in research; determine appropriate experimental controls.
- Conduct literature reviews to assist in determining most suitable methods to be used in research.
- Other duties as assigned.
Please note that part of the job responsibilities includes collecting and/or processing samples from patients enrolled on clinical trials, which may require working outside of typical work hours and infrequently on weekends.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Research Technician II:
- Bachelor's degree in related scientific field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 2 years of experience working in a lab outside of school coursework.
- Research Technician III:
- Bachelor's degree in related scientific field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 5 years of experience working in a lab outside of school coursework (or equivalent combination of advanced degree and work experience).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Laboratory experience with cell cultures and/or molecular biological techniques.
- Self-motivated candidates with excellent organizational skills, written and oral communication skills, and those who work well in a multidisciplinary team environment.
- To be successful in this position, the technician must be highly motivated, have a high level of initiative, work carefully, and keep detailed records.
- Capable of working independently in a teamwork environment and have excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Experience with Mouse handling and procedures, FACS, and cell culture.

The hourly pay range for the Research Tech II position is from $26.48 to $37.70 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
The hourly pay range for the Research Tech III position is from $32.77 to $49.14 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
