The Research Biostatistician is responsible for providing statistical and study design support, conducting data analysis and supporting the interpretation of results. This role collaborates with clinical, social behavioral and basic science researchers in complex design, collection, management and analysis of data, interpretation of results, preparation of reports, and publications of research for research projects.
The ideal candidate will have prior experience with social behavioral research and grant funded studies. Candidates with a PhD are strongly preferred.
Responsibilities
A day in the life of a Research Biostatistician at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:
- Collaborates with investigators in protocol development, assists with study design, necessary sample size calculations as applicable, and prepares the statistical section of the protocol.
- Collaborates with project investigators and data entry teams to perform baseline, interim and final statistical analysis of research datasets in accordance with federal and private grants and contracts.
- Assists in development and the maintenance of complex databases for research studies.
- Assists faculty with special research projects, including medical information requests and special studies, analyzing proposed studies to determine feasibility.
- Assists in the writing of grants and scientific publications, providing expertise and scientific context regarding the study design and statistical techniques to be used.
- Provides biostatistical expertise in the preparation of clinical research proposals.
- Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
- Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
Qualifications
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- Master's in Biostatistics, Bioinformatics, Public Health, Mathematics or related field. Appropriate education and/or experience may be substituted on equivalent basis.
- Minimum of 3 or more years of related experience.
- Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently, or in a team, and handle multiple deadline driven tasks in a dynamic environment is essential.
- Expertise that is very applicable to a wide area of medical research including but not limited to clinical and preclinical studies, quality of life survey studies, and observational studies in big data projects.
- Strong background in survival analysis methods.
- Strong analytical skills to develop complex statistical models.
- Substantial SAS Programming experience.
- Experience programming in R, S-Plus, STATA.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient computer skills that include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:
- Doctoral degree in Biostatistics, Bioinformatics, Public Health, Mathematics or related field.
