The Opportunity:
In this role, you will report to the Supervisor, Onsite Services and will work closely with Avantor’s Lab and Production Services team of over 1,500 on- and off-site expert personnel – and our customers – to perform customized, mission-based lab work and research protocols that help return time back to science.
Location: Branford, CT
Wage Range: $25 - $28

What we’re looking for:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent work experience) required, degree in biology or related discipline considered a plus.
- Experience: Lab environment work experience required.
- Collaboration Tool: Microsoft Office Suite with strong Excel skills required.
- Experience working with Safety Health Environment (SHE) lab policies and procedures desired.
- Proficient in data capture, analysis and reporting using various IT systems.
- Problem-solving capabilities and confidence to make clear decisions, sometimes with limited information.
- Work with scientists, other teams, supplies, and various collaborators of different backgrounds in a matrix environment used to deliver results.
- Clear and concise written and spoken communication skills.
- Ability to influence people at all levels to deliver improvements in operational effectiveness.
- Excellent planning, organizational, analytical, and networking skills.
- Ability to be adaptable and prioritize changing responsibilities and tasks on a regular basis.
- To be flexible with working hours when required in order to deliver the service required to our customers.
- Ability to learn and follow protocols closely, with attention to details required.
- Self-motivated, upbeat, dependable, and a team player.
- Analytical chemistry or automation focus lab work experience strongly desired.
- Knowledge of Avantor services and products is considered a plus.
How you will thrive and create an impact:
Avantor’s Lab and Production Services team is a crucial part of the Avantor Services group serving over 500 customers in biopharma, pharmaceutical, educational, industrial, and high-tech industries with customizable, flexible solutions and end-to-end laboratory operations support.
In this role you will:
- Operational support of chemistry and biology laboratories providing a “single point of contact” for laboratory scientists – material flow, freezer management, sample management, service delivery, equipment availability, process optimization.
- Execute routine laboratory support procedures and preparations like media/buffer prep, solvent/reagent mixtures, filtrations, material weighing, some physical testing, and witness senior staff experiments.
- Maintain lab inventory and labeling (chemical reagents, glassware, and gas cylinder levels).
- Verification and maintenance of laboratory equipment like balances, pH meters, sonicator cleaning, and glass washing.
- Works day to day on lab operation and safety, including submitting work orders or SHE observations as needed.
- Taking directions and working closely with the customer's laboratory manager in all aspects of lab operation.
- Routine maintenance and performance checks of laboratory equipment.
- Ensures the laboratory maintains its operational efficiency by collaborating closely with all Equipment maintenance vendors-planning preventative and scheduled maintenance regimes with minimal impact to daily operations, ensuring any service requests are completed, leading improvement projects.
- Helps clean certain areas in the lab, especially if a safety issue occurs.
- Assists in BSC cleanings and lab coat program.
- Identifies and promptly flags issues in the lab and communicates with the customer's laboratory manager.
- Performs standard SOPs for various activities in the lab, and writes new SOPs as needed.
- Works with scientists and onsite Avantor teams to ensure consumables inventories are accurate and overall oversight of consumables/usage/change requirements.
- Other duties as assigned.
