Job Objective
Under the direction of the Cardiovascular Services Manager and the Neurodiagnostic Section Supervisor, the Neurodiagnostic Technologist shall perform neurodiagnostic procedures in the clinical setting. This applies to both inpatient and outpatient that includes the operating room for the adult, pediatric, and neonate population of patients in accordance with technical standards set forth by the American Society of Neurodiagnostic Technologies (ASET), the American Electroencephalography Society (AEEGS), or the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM). The Neurodiagnostic Technologist is required to maintain and improve his/her level of clinical and technical knowledge across all disciplines of the diagnostic neurosciences.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Meets all essential duties regarding the performance and acquisition of neurodiagnostic studies.
- Promotes client centered care.
- Facilitates EEG scheduling for inpatient and outpatient needs.
- Prepares patient for study including measuring body parts, marking electrode locations, and adjusting equipment.
- Works with physicians and medical personnel to ensure optimal study attainment.
- Monitors patients during tests or surgeries using EEG and other equipment.
- Submits reports to physicians summarizing test results.
- Performs and completes studies in a timely manner.
- Follows recognized technical guidelines in the performance of quality surgical studies.
- Participates in surgical monitoring according to established standards and practices.
- Participates in projects, conferences, or technical meetings.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge:
- Knowledge of neurodiagnostic studies including EEG, PSG, NCS, EMG, CSM, and IOM.
- Knowledge of EEG EP equipment including calibration, troubleshooting, and repair.
Skills:
- Proficiency in identifying artifacts or interferences on electroneurodiagnostic recordings.
Abilities:
- Ability to assist in training technicians or other staff members.
- Ability to explain testing procedures to patients.
Education and Experience:
Education:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Successful completion of a nationally recognized neurodiagnostic program.
Experience:
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience working as an EEG Tech in a clinical setting is preferred.
Required Licensure and/or Certifications:
- Registered Electroencephalographic and/or Evoked Potential Technologist (R.EEG.T and/or R.EP.T.) by the American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologists (ABRET) or obtained within 12 months of hire.
- Certification in Neurophysiological Intraoperative Monitoring (CNIM) preferred.
- BCLS Certification.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Mandatory call rotation to include weekends and holidays.
- Work often performed in high volume, fast-paced, stressful conditions.
