Job Summary
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.

Major Duties
- The Registered Nurse (Operating Room) is accountable for patient outcomes resulting from the nursing care for the patient undergoing a surgical/invasive procedure.
- Plans, directs, and coordinates the care of every patient undergoing operative and other invasive procedures.
- Functions proficiently in both the circulator and scrub role within the OR and is competent in all surgical specialties served.
- Maintains knowledge of current AORN Standards, VHA Directives, and service level standard operating procedures.
- Ensures the sterility of the surgical field and safe use of instrumentation and equipment.
- Protects the patient from injury and performs counting procedures to prevent unintended retained surgical items.
- Participates in the Time Out process to ensure correct site, side, and level.
- Manages the patient's specimens appropriately and administers medications safely.
- Documents all care provided during the perioperative experience in the electronic health record.
- Coaches and mentors staff, participates in clinical orientation of new personnel, and is required to be on-call during off hours for emergency procedures.

U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
