Undergraduate Nursing Employee (UNE)
Are you currently enrolled in a Registered Nurse (RN) or Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN) program in Alberta? AHS supports and encourages qualified nursing students to apply for Undergraduate Nursing Employee (UNE) positions. You will have the opportunity to apply your classroom skills and knowledge, in a real clinical setting, with real patients, under the mentorship of a RN or RPN. This is your chance to experience nursing as it happens – and get paid while you learn!
Note: Undergraduate Nursing Employees cannot work in the same unit as their practicum.
The following minimum qualifications are required for a UNE position:
- Current enrollment in an approved Alberta nursing education program leading to initial entry to practice as a registered nurse or registered psychiatric nurse.
RN Program
- Successful completion of 3rd year of an RN nursing education program; AND
- Minimum of 600 hours of clinical practice in an approved RN education program.
OR
- Currently in final year of an after-degree RN nursing education program; AND
- Minimum of 600 hours of clinical practice in an approved RN education program.
RPN Program
- Successful completion of 2nd year of an RPN nursing education program; AND
- Minimum of 600 hours of clinical practice in an approved RPN education program.

Health Care Aide (HCA) Nursing Students
Are you a nursing student enrolled in an approved Alberta nursing program and have successfully completed a minimum of 100 hours of practicum? Completed your 1st year of practical nursing or 2nd year of baccalaureate nursing or psychiatric nursing program? You can apply for Health Care Aide (HCA) positions at AHS. Please visit the Alberta Health Care Aide Directory to enroll as a nursing student.

AHS Nursing Mentorship Network
AHS students and new nurses are invited to join the AHS Nursing Mentorship Network. The network provides opportunities to:
- Learn, reflect, network and collaborate.
- Be supported by a nurse mentor.
- Share successes and challenges.
- Connect with other nursing professionals across the province.
As a co-op student at AHS, you will gain academic and practical experience with mentorship and guidance from a team of business professionals. The projects you complete will provide you meaningful, productive and rewarding challenges while introducing you to the corporate and business support functions of the healthcare industry.
- Registered as a full-time post-secondary student in an accredited educational institution;
- Returning for courses in the following academic term; and
- Legally entitled to work in Canada.

Positions are typically available during the academic school calendar (fall, winter and summer); however AHS continuously seeks to hire co-op students throughout the year.
