What You'll Do:
- Responsibility for providing re-assessments on individuals on conservatorship.
- May also have a caseload involving children and/or adults.
- Performing psychotherapy.
- Performing psychological testing and assessment of clients.
- Consulting on complex behavioral health clients.

This position is located at 720 Wood St. in Eureka, CA, 95501.
A typical work schedule for this position is Monday through Friday, 20 hours/week.

Responsibilities:
Under general supervision, has responsibility for a psychiatric caseload involving children and/or adults; performs psychotherapy; performs psychological testing and assessment of clients; consults or personally provides support to complex or difficult mental health clients; may provide direction and work review for assigned Mental Health Clinicians, interns, and other support staff; performs related work as assigned.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Licensed Clinical Psychologist I: This is the entry level in this specialist class. Incumbents are assigned mental health casework which will broaden and deepen their professional experience in diagnosis, group and individual therapy, and psychological testing and assessment.
- Administers and interprets various psychological assessment instruments for mental health clients.
- Performs psychotherapy or provides professional consultation for the more complex or difficult client assessments and/or mental health programs or projects.
- Performs client intake and psychological evaluation of clients new to the service; obtains client histories and determines mental status and performs diagnoses.
- Provides ongoing psychotherapy and necessary referrals for clients as needs dictate; provides psychotherapy to chronically mentally ill adults and children, brief therapy for clients experiencing situational-type problems, and ongoing therapy for clients in out- or in-patient settings.
Skills Required:
- Directing and reviewing the work of others.
- Training staff in work procedures.
- Assessing client mental status and making accurate evaluations and effective treatment referrals.
- Analyzing crisis situations in a prompt and concise manner to facilitate appropriate treatment and referrals.
- Conducting mental health education and training programs.
- Evaluating clients for medication referral.
- Presenting client history and behavioral impressions to psychiatric allied mental health staff for further review.
- Preparing detailed case summaries and documentation and maintaining accurate client records in compliance with local, state, and federal rules and regulations.
- Protecting client's rights and providing advocacy for the mentally ill.
- Working effectively with appropriate County, community, hospital, school, and other involved agencies.
- Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other therapists, County staff, schools, referral agencies, physicians, and the public.
- Utilizing the most current version of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual for performing diagnoses on all five axies.
Other Requirements:
- Must possess a valid California driver's license.
- Licensed Clinical Psychologist I: Must possess a valid intern registration number from the State Board of Medical Quality Assurance and be able to obtain an appropriate license to practice as a Licensed Clinical Psychologist in the State of California within two years following granting of a Ph.D. in psychology.
