K12 Interpretive Museum Fellow – The Cornell Fine Arts Museum, Rollins College
Position Summary:
The Cornell Fine Arts Museum at Rollins College features rotating exhibitions, ongoing programs, and an extensive permanent collection that spans centuries, from examples of ancient art and artifacts to contemporary art. Open to the public year-round, its holdings include the only European Old Master paintings in the Orlando area, a sizeable American art collection, and a forward-thinking contemporary collection on view both at the Museum and The Alfond Inn at Rollins. In 1981, the Museum became Florida’s first college museum to be accredited by the American Association of Museums (currently the American Alliance of Museums) and continues in 2018 as one of only four AAM-accredited museums in greater Orlando.
The fellow is part of the curatorial team, spearheading K12 and youth and family programs at the museum. This position will be responsible for the planning, content development and coordination of implementing K12 programs at the museum and within the community as part of CFAM’s outreach efforts. This position oversees a team of docents, an intern and contracted teaching artists.
Responsibilities
- In close collaboration with the Associate Curator of Education, plan, develop, and implement K12 and Youth and Family programming.
- Plan and facilitate biweekly onsite Studio Saturdays for kids and families.
- Oversee upcoming weekend reading program and Art Explorers for K-6 audiences.
- Plan, coordinate, and conduct school exhibition tours and programs in the galleries.
- Organize and lead teacher workshops for ArtLab and [Art] in Context programs.
- Serve as primary liaison between CFAM and Orange County Public School, Seminole County Public School and Osceola County Public School Systems.
- Identify youth outreach opportunities in the Greater Orlando Area.
- Train and supervise volunteer docents for school tours and programs.
- Help in writing grants for K12 educational programming.
- Other responsibilities as assigned by the Associate Curator of Education.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Art History, Art Education, Museum Studies, Education or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
- Minimum of 2 years of related experience and minimum of 1 year teaching experience. Experience teaching in a museum preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to interpret complex content for general audiences of all ages.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
- Excellent organizational and project management skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience teaching in a museum.
Additional Position Information
The K12 Interpretive Museum Fellow is scheduled to work 30 hours per week, for a maximum total of 1,440 annually. The K12 Interpretive Museum Fellow is scheduled to work the following hours, with a one-hour lunch period:
