Description of Work:
This is professional work providing complex psychological services to the Circuit and County Court Judges, including independent diagnosis and evaluation of clients, and consultation on the client’s behalf. Work involves forensic in-jail responsibilities, which include providing professional clinical evaluations of mentally and emotionally unstable inmates incarcerated in Pinellas County jail to assess competency to stand trial. As a result of the evaluation, recommendations may also be offered to the Court regarding alternative placement and aftercare for inmates with mental illness and/or developmental disability. The Staff Psychologist may also serve and testify as an expert witness in Court. Duties involve frequent contact with inmates, families of inmates, attorneys, judges, staff and allied professionals within the community and includes liaison responsibilities with the Sheriff's Department, Department of Corrections, Department of Health and Rehabilitative Services (HRS) and the Judiciary. Work is performed with a high degree of independent judgment, discretion and initiative under the general direction of the Director of Behavioral Evaluations and work is reviewed through conferences, reports and results achieved.
Minimum Training and Experience Required:
Must possess a Doctor of Psychology (PsyD), Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Psychology, or Medical Doctor (MD) in Psychiatry or closely related field from an accredited college or university. Experience in psychology, preferably in forensic, clinical or counseling psychology and be a professionally licensed psychologist pursuant to Chapter 490, Florida Statutes. Training must include one (1) year of supervised internship experience in professional psychology, which has included psychological evaluation, research and treatment. Must maintain licensure requirements.
