Ozark Folk Center Heritage Herb Garden Internship (#1012)
Position Dates: June 24, 2024 – September 22, 2024
Position Location: Ozark Folk Center State Park
About us: The Student Conservation Association (SCA) is the largest provider of hands-on environmental conservation programs for youth and adults. Program participants protect and restore national parks, national forests, wildlife refuges, marine sanctuaries, cultural landmarks, community green spaces, and much more across the country.
Position Description:
Are you interested in a career in botanical gardens or natural resources management? We need a tech-savvy intern who can compile data from various archives including handwritten notebooks, meeting notes, lists of collections plants, and more into a comprehensive searchable database. We need a person who can photograph plants and projects in the Heritage Herb Garden and then label and compile the digital photos. This work would be used for an interpretive guidebook for park visitors and a different handbook for instruction for future gardeners.
These projects will give you real-world database, photography, and publication skills. At the end of the summer, you will have a finished project for your portfolio and the park will have a much-needed guidebook for the Heritage Herb Garden.
To qualify for an internship, an applicant must meet the following criteria:
- Be a full-time student in good standing at an Arkansas college/university at the time of application.
- Have declared a degree of study.
- Have completed 60 hours of college credit by the time the internship begins.
- Be an Arkansas resident paying in-state tuition.
- Demonstrate coursework or knowledge related to the work area.
- Be at least 18 years of age.
- Pass a criminal background check.
- Have reliable on-site transportation.
Priority will be given to interns from universities who provide course credit hours for internships. Selected interns will coordinate directly with their universities to obtain credit for their work.

- A one-time travel grant of $1,100 for round trip transportation to the internship site.
- A weekly subsistence allowance of $360 during the internship period.

- An AmeriCorps Educational Award, if and when available, for interns that meet the qualifications set by the Corporation for National and Community Service.
AmeriCorps Eligibility Requirements:
This position is part of an SCA AmeriCorps program and if you are selected, you will be serving as an SCA AmeriCorps member. To be eligible for this position you must meet these basic AmeriCorps Eligibility Requirements:
- Being a citizen, permanent resident, or national of the United States;
- Being at least 18 years or older;
- Having a high school diploma or equivalent or actively working to complete;
- Being willing to undergo National Service Criminal History Check, including criminal background, sex offender and FBI checks conducted after position is offered.
