PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists the surgical team before, during, and after procedures.
- Assists in preparing patients for surgery, sets up surgical equipment prior to surgery.
- Assists with cleaning the rooms in preparation for subsequent surgical procedures.
- Assists the surgeon in surgery by passing instruments, draping sterile field, and may serve in the first or second scrub role during surgical procedures.
- Maintains sterile techniques, recognizes breaks in technique, and takes steps to regain sterility.
- Organizes instruments, supplies, equipment, medication, and solutions needed for surgical procedures.
- May transport patients or specimens as necessary.
- Completes case cart with all supplies and instruments required for scheduled cases at least 30 minutes prior to subsequent scheduled case start. Retrieves supplies kept in specific OR/locations for case as needed; transports case cart.
- Transports clean and dirty equipment and supplies.
- May support various patient care activities as indicated by surgical case type including assisting with obtaining vital signs, specimen collection, and skin preps, and assisting with positioning and ambulation.
11. Performs appropriate pre and post-surgical counts with circulating nurse.
- Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Immediately reports any mechanical or electrical equipment malfunctions, unsafe conditions, or employee/patient/visitor injury accident to supervisor.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Other duties as assigned by supervision.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES/LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIRED
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Must hold American Heart Association’s Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS).
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES/LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION PREFERRED
- Graduate of an accredited surgical technology program.
- Additional Life Support credential (ACLS, PALS, NRP, etc.) or other clinical specialty certifications in specific units including certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST), Technologist in Surgery-Certified (TS-C), or Certified Obstetrics Technologist.
- Visual color acuity screening depending on the role in specific units.
