We currently have two positions open in Cambridge and Denton, Maryland.
Job Summary: Choptank Community Health System’s (CCHS) staff pediatric dentist’s comprehensive pediatric patient management responsibilities including direct patient care, all necessary documentation, review of labs and diagnostic tests, and referral of specialty services as needed. Pediatric dentists are responsible for providing care in the operating room (OR) once credentialing is complete and approved. The Pediatric Dentist is responsible for appropriate coding services, meeting all provider job duties including performance and quality measures, attending CCHS meetings, and completing other administrative duties as assigned.

Physical setting: Office
Schedule: 8 hour shift - Monday to Friday
Education and Experience:
- A degree from an accredited School of Dentistry as well as postgraduate training in Pediatric Dentistry or equivalent certification by the AAPD and State Board.
- A current valid license to practice dentistry issued by the State of Maryland.
- Board certification by a recognized Board of Dentistry.
- Certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS).
- Current valid DEA license.
- Maintains knowledge of all Pediatric Dentistry advances through continuing education.
- Eligible for sedation certification and comprehensive pediatric dental care under sedation.
- Five plus years of experience in direct patient care in Pediatric Dentistry in FQHCs or outpatient medical facilities with active pediatric board certification or proof of in process to completion of Board certification.
- Five plus years of experience as a pediatric dentist in a primary care delivery system.
- Pediatric dental treatment under sedation and nitrous oxide.

Duties/Responsibilities:
- Maintains and contributes to the highest quality standards of professionalism and CCHS policies.
- Applicant must be willing to work at any CCHS affiliated clinical sites, including surgery center and emergency room.
- Demonstrates an ability and desire to see patients when needed and by volume of care contributes to the maximization of delivery effort to the most patients.
- Completes documentation in a timely, legible, accurate and thorough manner.
- Participates in CCHS meetings and administrative process to provide the necessary input into CCHS activities.
- Clinical Responsibilities:
- Partners with the Chief Dental Officer and Associate Dental Clinical Director to ensure that services are provided to patients in conformity with clinic protocols and the code of ethics of the Maryland Board of Dentistry. Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local standards and contributes to the efficiency of health center operations.
- Works directly with the Associate Dental Clinical Director / AEGD Director and Chief Dental Officer to provide oversight of all dental care provided to patients by CCHS.
- Monitors and ensures the performance quality by clinical staff meets federal, state, and local standards.
- Provides input on CCHS policies and procedures in compliance with current accepted professional standards.
- Provides consultation to the Chief Dental Officer and Associate Dental Clinical Director on peer review and quality assurance activities.
- Provides clinical consultations for CCHS providers as requested.
- Works with Chief Dental Officer, Associate Dental Clinical Director, and Dental Quality Director for making sure within all dental pediatric services provided are within CCHS scope of service and FTCA coverage.
- Oversees all newly hired or existing CCHS Pediatric Dental providers competencies, training in all clinical procedures including new sedation protocols.
- Assists in accessing clinically all existing Pediatric dental providers and in recruitment and hiring of additional providers as part of this CCHS Pediatric Dental program.
- Medical-Legal Responsibilities:
- Partners with CCHS leadership to maintain medical-legal compliance and sound procedures for the protection of CCHS staff and CCHS assets.
- Coordinates with the CDO and CCHS Associate Dental Clinical Director ensuring compliance with all Maryland State law regarding sedation associated with CCHS Pediatric dental program including review of processes to ensure compliance with FTCA protocols.
- Other Responsibilities:
- Provides provider leadership, mentorship, and coaching to CCHS dental staff.
- Provides support to special projects as needed.
- Regular, reliable attendance is a requirement of this job.

Required Skills/Abilities:
- Primary responsibilities include a combination of direct patient care and on-call assignments.
- Direct patient care responsibilities include comprehensive diagnosis and treatment of children and young adults including specialty training in utilization of minor and advanced sedation with appropriate credentialing and certification as needed.
- Possesses a high level of verbal and written communication skills including the ability to respond accordingly to patient and staff needs.
- Additional skills and experience in the areas of interceptive orthodontics, special patient care, speech/language pathology, ethics, and/or advocacy is preferred, but not required.
- Basic computer skills including the ability to prepare simple correspondence and reports in Microsoft Word and summarize data in Excel spreadsheets.
- Has received infection control, standard precautions training, and HIPPA knows and meets all CCHS policies.
- Has received training, knows, and meets all job-relevant standards related to OSHA, Fire, Safety and Utilities, Security, Emergency preparedness, and codes. Attends all in services, complies with all CCHS policies. When lifting heavy items or assisting patients, always use proper lifting techniques.
- Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide pediatric dental care under different clinical and hospital settings.
