Job overview
The Post Holder will hold specific expertise in a modality of psychological therapy at a Highly Specialised level and will also provide clinical leadership to the service, within a senior clinical team.
The Post Holder will possess a qualification in a recognised Psychological Therapy for Serious Mental Health Problems as defined by NHS England.
The Post Holder will work alongside other Highly Specialised Psychological Therapists and take strategic direction from the Principal Clinical Psychologist.
The Post Holder will be responsible for ensuring the systematic provision of high-quality specialist psychological therapies to clients with serious mental health problems.
The Post Holder will assist the Principal Clinical Psychologist and utilise delegated responsibility as appropriate in ensuring the effective high quality clinical functioning of the service.
To supervise and support the psychological assessment and therapy provided by a range of psychological therapists, and other clinical members of the team who provide psychologically based care and treatment.
Main duties of the job
As well as providing clinical expertise in an area of psychological therapy, this senior clinician also ensures the service’s vision, business model, clinical quality, productivity and KPIs are consistently and systematically delivered.
The Post Holder will ensure ongoing quality improvements are established to improve delivery and will ensure supervision is robust and clinical pathways meet the requirements of the service model and the evidence base.
The Post Holder will have delegated authority to act, however will also work within a collective leadership team of a senior clinical lead, principal clinical psychologist and the operational lead. The Post Holder will interface with other providers and will be a visible lead for staff across the footprint. The Post Holder will also provide clinical supervision in the modality (modalities) in which they are accredited as a supervisor. They will also maintain professional registration as appropriate through clinical work and CPD.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

- Working with the clinical leadership team and under the direction of the Principal Clinical Psychologist, provide leadership for the PTS.
- Develop and maintain psychological therapy pathways across the geographical footprint.
- Working with other senior psychological therapists, lead the staff team towards a PT-SMHP compliant offer and culture.
- To be involved in the development of treatment protocols, audit tools and outcome measures to ensure the service meets national standards.
- Working with the senior operational leads, contribute a senior clinical perspective to planning and allocating staff resources to ensure that clinical quality and patient safety are given equal priority with performance drivers.
- Access own clinical supervision from an appropriate source in accordance with requirements of the accrediting / registering body (e.g. BABCP, HCPC, EMDR UK).
- As a senior clinician contribute to the planning and implementation of systems for the evaluation and monitoring of treatment pathways.
Person specification
Qualifications
- Accredited by the BABCP in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy / HCPC registration as a relevantly qualified practitioner psychologist (health psychologist, clinical or counselling psychologist).
Experience
- Experience of working within a primary or secondary care psychological services and skilled in collaborative assessment, formulation and working alongside colleagues from a range of disciplines.
- Track record and experience of implementing evidence based therapies and supervision, which are consistent with a PT-SMHP service.
- Experience of working in a suitable psychological therapy role, for a period of time, to gain a track record and experience of applying specialised therapeutic interventions.
You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
