Responsible for planning, designing and implementing improvements to Radiology's computerized systems. Continually improves the operations, stability, and performance of PACS while minimizing downtime. Serves as technical expert in resolving radiology systems issues. Provides coaching and training to radiology systems staff and end-users. Assists in developing detailed capital plans and provides expertise during vendor negotiations.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Provides expertise and coaching to the radiology systems staff to deepen their knowledge and enhance their troubleshooting skills.
2. Plans, designs and implements hardware and software upgrades to Radiology systems.
3. Responsible for other systems and technologies used to support radiology operations.
4. Develops and adjusts long-term plans for Radiology’s PACS infrastructure including archiving and redundant storage strategies. These plans provide a roadmap for Radiology’s continued evolution to a filmless, paperless environment.
5. Oversees the integration of new modalities and facilities to the PACS environment.
6. Continually monitors performance of the PACS environment and quickly addresses identified issues. Documents when system performance deviates from established thresholds and pursues remedies from vendor as provided in service contract.
7. Analyzes the PACS infrastructure’s ability to accommodate planned additions of new modalities, scanner upgrades, etc. without adversely impacting overall system performance.
8. Develops, communicates, and continually updates detailed contingency plans to enable reading of radiology studies during extended PACS downtimes.
9. Works with IS to design optimal network topology to minimize impact on PACS operations during network outages.
10. Serves as lead technical expert and coordinates radiology system and vendor resources to quickly resolve system outages
11. Develops detailed capital plans for radiology system expenditures and provides expertise during negotiation of equipment purchases and service contracts
12. Works closely with radiologists and other end-users to identify workflow and other operational improvements. Coordinates special projects arising from recommended improvement initiatives.
13. Remains abreast of latest technology advancements in radiology-related systems and prepares recommendations for system upgrades and new implementations to radiology management.
14. Oversees the scheduling and completion of system maintenance tasks.
15. Provides training and coaching to system end-users.
16. First point-of-contact for trouble-shooting and provides support to troubleshoot and resolve critical system issues as required.
17. Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Immediately reports any mechanical or electrical equipment malfunctions, unsafe conditions, or employee/patient/visitor injury accident to Manager.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES/LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIRED
1. Bachelor’s degree
2. Five (5) years’ experience with implementing and supporting Radiology Systems
3. Must have an understanding of Radiology processes and its different modalities
4. Strong communication, interpersonal, conflict resolution, and customer service skills
5. Exceptional analytical and technical troubleshooting skills
6. Proven ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment of constantly shifting priorities
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES/LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION PREFERRED
1. Experience with networking hardware and applications
2. Five (5) years demonstrated experience implementing and supporting PACS or other systems in a hospital environment
3. A minimum of two (2) years of radiology management and project management experience is preferred.
