POSITION DESCRIPTION: Complex Food Safety and Quality (FSQ) Manager leads the execution of food safety and quality programs, system assessments and implementation, and related technical services including sanitation, regulatory compliance, internal and external compliance audits, facility food safety, and associated training at all operations within the complex (shell egg and further processing). The role includes the responsibility for technicians as direct reports including their professional development. Requires a strong interface with complex and facility managers.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Responsible for ensuring that all FSQ programs are in place for the production and storage of all products manufactured under clean, safe, and wholesome conditions.
- Lead efforts in identifying root cause of quality issues, establish corrective actions and follow up to ensure resolution.
- Lead all food safety and quality audits including but not limited to SQF, customer, regulatory and internal.
- Works with FSQ Technical Services team to develop and analyze statistical data and product specifications to determine standards and establish proposed quality and reliability expectancy of finished product.
- Develops, updates, and maintains FSQ programs/procedures, etc. as needed and directed.
- Develop an effective sanitation inspection program, train QC staff on proper sanitation practices, proper GMPs, etc.
- Manage FSQ document review process and filing.
- Manage “hold” program.
- Perform sampling and review microbiological test results.
- Write documents, manuals, SOPs, and update specification sheets as directed.
- Supervises all FSQ staff. Directs workers engaged in inspection and testing activities to ensure continuous control over materials, facilities, and products.
- Maintain strong relationships with leaders across the organization.
- Participates and provides feedback into Management Reviews, and other FSQ related meetings. Consistently demonstrates good judgment and critical thinking in the performance of duties.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS:
- Attend industry meetings and functions as assigned.
- Be the face of Rose Acre Farms FSQ with customers as assigned.
- Must treat all (employees, co-workers, management, customers and vendors) with respect and courtesy.
- Must be able to work varying schedule including days, nights and weekends as necessary.
- Must be able to travel overnight as required.
- All other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science or similar degree is preferred. Proven equivalent work experience will be considered.
- Three to five years in Food Safety and Quality in food manufacturing.
- HACCP, Preventive Controls, GFSI experience as well as experience dealing with FDA, FSIS and AMS.
- The ideal candidate would be a person who has leadership skills, experience in the function, and has been a supervisor.
- He or she will also demonstrate strong leadership, teamwork and communication skills and have the ability to work on a computer (understanding Outlook, Word, Excel, etc).
- Proven experience in leading and developing direct reports.
- Strong written, verbal and presentation skills.
- Bilingual, English/Spanish proficiency a plus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Must possess the ability to work in an agricultural environment, indoors, outdoors, office, warehouse, processing, and farm production areas each varying in temperature, and other environment specific atmospheres.
- Must be willing and able to work past the scheduled leave time to complete the job, if needed.
- Must possess the ability to work in an open office setting. Must maintain professionalism with coworkers.
