The Opportunity
Our US OTS Compression team is evolving to meet the needs of our growing business, and we are expanding our support for analysis of rotating and reciprocating machinery. We are seeking an Equipment Analyst who has knowledge and experience in ancillary support equipment, provides technical support to field teams, supports proper operation and maintenance of mechanical systems for compressor stations and related facilities, and ensures reliability of compression facilities. Borescope inspections and vibration testing of gas turbines and centrifugal compressors is also a prime duty. This position generally covers pipeline segments within an assigned geographical footprint, but there may sometimes be periodic travel to facilities beyond this area.
What you'll do
- Provide engine and compressor performance analysis per established program guidelines within area of responsibility using a Windrock portable analyzer to measure Hp, conduct vibration analysis, power and compressor cylinder pressure traces, etc.
- Maintain equipment analysis records per the Company’s Predictive Maintenance Program.
- Provide verbal and written equipment condition information to location teams, assist in equipment troubleshooting, and document the maintenance activities necessary to improve mechanical condition, performance, and reliability of equipment.
- Identify mechanical problems and substandard equipment performance and make written recommendations identifying operating limitations, based on equipment condition.
- Provide adjustments to compressor units to reduce O&M costs and improve compressor efficiency following appropriate MOC requirements.
- Trend analysis data and recommend timelines when maintenance is necessary to prevent failure and maximize the economic run time of the equipment.
- Assess the condition of engine foundations and supports.
- Monitor unit specific fuel consumption to analyze performance of air/fuel ratio controls and ignition systems and make or recommend adjustments as needed.
- Assist Maintenance Leads and Reliability Engineers in developing accurate loading curves and conducting equipment failure investigations.
- Assist Maintenance Leads by providing equipment condition information for developing scopes of work, parts lists, and cost estimates for unit overhaul projects.
- Support others as needed through training and sharing of best practices.
- Identify O&M project needs, based on equipment condition, performance, and reliability.
- Identify opportunities to apply new technology to improve equipment performance.
- Maintain oil analysis records and review oil reports to assist with equipment analysis.
- Maintain the required level of expertise to maximize the benefits of the Company’s Maintenance Program.
- Perform emissions testing to ensure compliance with company, local, state, and federal agencies.
- Other tasks as required.
Minimum qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- 5 or more years of experience in gas transmission (preferred) or power generation industry.
- Extensive knowledge of operations and maintenance of reciprocating engines and compressors (high and low speed), pumps, and other ancillary equipment.
- Above average analytical skills are needed to identify and evaluate machinery performance and condition levels.
- Ability and initiative to work independently, display creativity, and exercise sound judgment.
- Demonstrated superior organizational skills and proven ability to manage projects.
- Possess human relations skills to effectively operate in a team-oriented environment with a willingness to support team objectives.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to work closely with field teams and Management, and coordinate work with other appropriate technical resources.
- Must be able to handle rapidly shifting priorities and multiple projects concurrently, requiring resolution of complex problems in stressful situations.
- Have knowledge and be familiar with Company, DOT and EPA Procedures, Engineering Standards, OSHA, and Safety Practices.
- Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office software applications, e-mail, etc.
- Highly motivated and able to work with minimal supervision.
Preferred qualifications
- Previous experience with performance analysis and data interpretation.
This position requires candidates to:
- Have and maintain a valid driver’s license and safe driving record.
- Successfully complete a pre-employment medical screening, including drug and alcohol testing.
- Be subject to working in cramped spaces, in high temperature and noise level areas in and around engine and compressor equipment.
- Be subject to hazardous conditions including escaping gas, heights, lifting, and cramped conditions.
- Be available for infrequent after-hours support, extended workdays/weeks, and travel to stations as needed to perform the role, sometimes requiring overnight stays.
