Kroll, LLC - Director, Tax Accounting - Morristown, New Jersey
The Director's primary emphasis will be to manage the ASC 740 process, including post diligence review of tax workpapers and purchase accounting for new acquisitions. The tax accounting process will support the Federal, State, and Foreign income tax return processes by providing a summary of open items that require further researching, track audit exposures and payments, and track any internal reorganizations and the associated tax accounting impacts. He/She will manage the tax accounting process and SOX process, including preparing the tax footnote and all required disclosures with the assistance of an external provider and other team members.
Note: This position is located in our Morristown office.
Day-to-day responsibilities:
- Interact with company's external tax and accounting advisors regarding provision issues.
- Plan the provision workplan and manage external vendors and team members to ensure timely preparation and delivery of the tax provision.
- Prepare technical accounting memoranda to support key positions in the U.S. GAAP provision.
- Coordinate and review worldwide income tax provisions timely and accurately in accordance with ASC 740.
- Review and sign off on tax account GL analysis, including current/deferred tax expense, income tax payables, FIN 48/ASC 740-30 liabilities and other relevant accounts with accounting team and subordinates.
- Prepare the tax footnote and review all required disclosures for accuracy.
- Review tax return and tax provision workpapers of all acquired entities and build all necessary workpapers to support and reconcile all opening deferred tax and corporate income tax payable balances.
- Manage and control the SOX process, including sign-offs by all relevant parties, and create audit ready documentation. Assist in developing departmental policies, procedures and processes to minimize global corporate income tax risks.
- Research multiple issues effectively in all areas of tax law, business operations, global economics and accounting.
Essential traits:
- Bachelor's Degree required; CPA, JD and/or Masters of Taxation degree a plus.
- 10 years tax experience with at least 2 years in public accounting.
- Demonstrate strong working knowledge of income tax provisions.
- Demonstrate knowledge of tax research.
- Demonstrate the ability to create, maintain, and modify departmental policies and procedures.
- Demonstrate the ability to identify issues or potential issues and develop solutions to those issues.
- Demonstrate the ability to document issues, tax positions, and GAAP to tax treatment of income and expenses effectively for the departmental files.
- Willingness to participate in multiple areas of tax, including foreign country tax regimes.
- Proven experience utilizing standard business (MS Office), tax (research and compliance) and accounting software applications. Experience with One Source Tax Provision is a plus.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Experience writing tax memoranda preferred.
