Within the Benefits and Insurance Services division, the Government Contracting Practice (GCP) was created in direct response to the unique benefit needs of CBIZ’s government contracting clients who are subject to the hourly fringe benefit provisions of the Service Contract and Davis-Bacon Acts. The Accounting Specialist for the Government Contracting Practice is responsible for assisting with Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, general ledgers, financial operations, and activities related to our client's health and welfare plans. The Accounting Specialist will work closely with the Controller and senior management to develop and implement financial strategies that support our client’s benefit plans and the practice’s goals and objectives.

Reconciles client funds such as disbursements, expenses, and income.
Essential Functions and Primary Duties
- Financial Reporting: Prepare, review, and analyze financial statements to ensure accuracy and compliance with government regulations and company policies.
- Contract Management: Assist in the management of government contracts, including monitoring contract modifications, billing, and compliance with contractual terms.
- Cost Accounting: Maintain and analyze cost accounting records, ensuring proper allocation of costs to government contracts in accordance with FAR (Federal Acquisition Regulation) and other relevant guidelines.
- Budgeting and Forecasting: Support the preparation of budgets and forecasts for government contracts, ensuring alignment with project goals and financial constraints.
- Compliance: Ensure compliance with government regulations, including DOL and IRS filings.
- Audit Support: Assist in the preparation and coordination of internal and external audits, providing necessary documentation and responding to auditor inquiries.
- Accounts Payable/Receivable: Manage accounts payable and receivable processes, including invoice processing, payment approvals, and collections for government contracts.
- Data Management: Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records in accounting systems, ensuring data integrity and security.
- Process Improvement: Identify and implement process improvements to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the accounting function.
- Process Insured Premiums using an online benefit system.
- Invoice clients for premium and enter accounts receivable into QuickBooks.
- Receive Insurance Carrier's bills and enter them as payable into QuickBooks.
- Track and enter payment of premium in QuickBooks.
- Reconcile Carrier bills and initiate payment via check or ACH for supervisor approval.
- Notify carriers of any needed adjustments to bills and track.
- Reconcile client premium payment checking accounts.
- Produce quarterly financial statements for client accounts.
- Maintain data in SalesForce and CBIZ Solutions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Experience: 1-3 years of accounting experience, preferably in government contracting or a related industry.
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of DOL and IRS filings, and government contract accounting principles.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks) and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
- Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with internal teams and external clients.
- Certifications: Prefer CPA or CPA in progress.
Minimum Qualification
- 3 years of experience as a subject matter expert.
- Must maintain current required licenses and certifications relevant to field of expertise.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate verbally and in writing throughout all levels of organization, both internally and externally.
- Effective customer service skills.
- Proficient use of applicable technology.
- Ability to work in a team environment as well as independently.
- Ability to analyze and prioritize multiple responsibilities.
