Overview:
A leading Sutter County Nursery is looking for their next Accounting Supervisor. The Accounting Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the preparation of financial statements, ensuring compliance with accounting regulations, and managing the month-end closing process. This individual is responsible for collaborating with various departments to provide insights into financial performance, assist with budgeting and forecasting, managing accounts receivable, and supporting audits. This role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to mentor junior staff.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversees the staff and the day-to-day operations of the accounting department, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and financial reporting.
- Manages the accounts receivable with the sales team to ensure timely invoicing, reconciling customer accounts, and resolving invoice discrepancies, claims, or disputes.
- Ensure accurate and timely preparation of financial statements, budgets, and financial reports in accordance with GAAP.
- Maintain the sales commission, royalties payments, and sales tax reconciliations.
- Prepare and will be responsible for sales tax and property tax returns.
- Oversee month-end and year-end close processes, including the reconciliation of accounts, accruals, and adjustments.
- Continuously support the ERP business system upgrades to provide full functionality for key operations of the company as applicable.
Marginal Duties:
- Adheres to safety and security standards and all company policies and procedures to ensure company objectives are met and communicates to management when safety concerns are observed.

Minimum Qualifications:
Knowledge of: Understanding of financial management principles and practices, with a focus on the agricultural sector; familiarity with budget development, financial forecasting, and financial risk management; familiarity with relevant federal, state, and local regulations and compliance standards impacting both general and agricultural finance and operations; experience in implementing financial strategies to support growth and sustainability in agricultural businesses; strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret agricultural industry dynamics; knowledge of agricultural technology and its implications for financial management and decision-making; effective leadership skills and experience in building collaborative relationships with cross-functional teams.
Ability to: Supervise accounting staff; organize tasks/projects by planning, directing, and assigning work; assist in training and coaching subordinates including developing staff capabilities and professional growth; monitor and evaluate staff performance; interpret and apply legal and procedural regulations to fiscal operations; gather and analyze data, draw logical conclusions, and make effective recommendations; analyze complex financial, operational, and organizational challenges, and develop solutions; collect, interpret, and evaluate various types of information and data to inform decision-making; supervise personnel and provide guidance for effective performance and professional development; communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, to convey complex financial information and recommendations; respond to emergency situations with composure and sound judgment; utilize standard office equipment and computer software applications for financial management specifically NetSuite.
Education and Experience: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field; Minimum of 6 years of progressively responsible experience, including four years with administrative and supervisory responsibilities.

Essential Duties require the following physical skills and work requirements: Requires the ability to maintain mental capacity which allows the capability of exercising sound judgment and rational thinking under varied circumstances; the ability to exert a small amount of physical effort in sedentary to light work involving moving from one area of the office to another; ability to see; ability to hear and communicate orally; requires sufficient hand/eye coordination to perform semi-skilled repetitive movements, such as using a computer, typing, data entry, or use of other office equipment or supplies; ability to operate a motor vehicle.
Compensation:
This position offers a competitive salary ($75-100k) depending on experience and qualifications. In addition: Medical, Dental, Vision insurance. Paid vacation, sick, and holiday pay. 401k retirement contribution.
