Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist is seeking full-time New Grad RNs for our Pediatrics Residency at Brenner Children's Hospital, located in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. A New Graduate Nurse is either a current nursing student nearing graduation from an RN program or a recent graduate with less than six months of clinical experience as a Registered Nurse.
Position Highlights
- Facility: Brenner Children's Hospital is a 144-bed facility located within Wake Forst Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. It offers care for patients from birth to age 21, with over 120 full-time pediatric faculty covering more than 30 specialties and all pediatric surgical fields. The hospital features its own Emergency Department and houses North Carolina's first Level I Pediatric Trauma Care unit.
- Residency Program: New Graduate RNs at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist receive supportive training led by dedicated nurse educators, including clinical orientation, specialty-specific learning, and skill-building in clinical decision-making, teamwork, communication, and career development.
The Brenner Children's Hospital Pediatrics units include:
- Pediatric Behavioral Health: This unit is specifically designed for pediatric patients with various emotional and mental health disorders. The unit features 16 beds for children and adolescents and focuses on providing specialized care and treatment for children facing behavioral health challenges. Supportive teams include Recreational Therapy, Music Therapists, Chaplaincy, Animal Assisted Therapy are a few that are a part of the programming for patients.
- Pediatric ICU/Pediatric IMC: This U-shaped area at Brenner Children’s Hospital encompasses the PICU, Pediatric IMC, and IMC Overflow units.
- PICU: An 11-bed unit with a 1:1 or 1:2 nurse-to-patient ratio depending upon patient needs and is dedicated to providing intensive care for infants and children with the most severe medical conditions.
- Pediatric IMC: A 7-bed unit with a 1:3 nurse-to-patient ratio and is an intermediate care unit designed for patients who need more care than what is available in a general pediatric unit but do not require intensive care.
- IMC Overflow: An 8-bed unit with a 1:3 or 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio depending upon patient needs and is at the opposite end of the Pediatric IMC, designated for acute care and overflow. This unit caters to babies with cardiac or other conditions requiring closer monitoring.

Job Summary
The New Graduate Nurse provides nursing care to patients using the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation). They lead and direct other assigned team members and collaborate with multidisciplinary team members to provide age/developmentally appropriate care in accordance with nursing standards of care and practice.
What You’ll Need
- Less than 6 months of RN experience
- Graduation from accredited School of Nursing; BSN preferred.
- Registered Nurse licensure from the State of North Carolina Board of Nursing
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) required
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required within 1 year of hire, per unit guidelines
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required within 1 year of hire, per unit guidelines
