Job Description:
SimIS seeks a part-time Autonomous Lab Manager to perform a variety of tasks relating to the production, design, testing, deployment, and maintenance of the SimIS Autonomous systems, including but not limited to the Human Type Target, RiverScout and other autonomous platforms. The person will be responsible for the assembly of these robotic units for contract fulfillment, product demonstrations and operational goals. These tasks include overall lab management, assisting in the re-design and optimization of the robotic units, the assembly and maintenance of units, as well as diagnostics and production improvements.
Specific Requirements:
- Providing guidance and direction to production floor personnel in a fast paced environment with rapidly changing priorities.
- Accomplishing manufacturing staff results by communicating expectations.
- Planning, monitoring, and appraising job results.
- Coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees while initiating, coordinating and enforcing systems, policies, and procedures.
- Maintaining training programs.
- Coordinating daily production floor activities and delegating assignments to production personnel.
- Ensuring material handlers supply the work stations with materials quickly and efficiently.
- Monitoring and enforcing safety and personnel policies and procedures.
- Maintaining a safe and clean work environment by educating and directing personnel.
- Ensuring equipment and tools are in good working order and available for use when required.
- Ensuring all stations are producing product to the company’s quality standards.
- Continuously evaluating and modifying the plant layout and material workflow for increased productivity.
- Submitting maintenance requests as necessary.
- Addressing conflicts of interest and providing solutions.
- Maintaining a positive work atmosphere while leading production personnel.
- Upholding all applicable OSHA standards.
- Assisting other personnel as needed.
- The professional assembly of robotic units.
- Maintaining inventory control of manufactured parts and pieces required for robotic operation.
- The development and maintenance of product assembly instructional guides, Bill of Materials, Inventory tracking sheets and other documents pertinent to the assembly of each robotic unit.
- Providing input and guidance on operational goals, project planning, feedback during design processes and goal setting.
- Executing pre-operation checks and tests for appropriate systems.
- Basic onsite and preparatory maintenance of robotic systems for successful operation.
- Operating the systems and monitoring their state through appropriate control applications.
- Maintaining safety and situational awareness measures during assembly, operation, and maintenance.
- Reporting to research and development team with feedback and suggested improvements based on assembly, and field performance.
- Assisting engineering team in daily activities to include but not limited to mechanical maintenance and equipment production.
- Researching, planning, and implementing new programs and protocols into organization and overseeing the development of new products.
- Overseeing the entire development process of new products and programs within an organization, from the initial planning phase to implementation or production.
- Tracking of all the costs related to the R&D and production of products.
- Maintaining/updating bill of materials (BOMs).
- Responsible for overall lab logistics and inventory.
Qualifications and Experience Required:
- 2 or more years of managerial/supervisory experience.
- 2 or more years of fabrication and machining experience.
- 2 or more years working with power tools, machinery, and other advanced tooling.
- Experience in assembly of complex mechanical systems.
- Knowledge and experience in development of mechanical assemblies.
- Familiarity with computer aided design (CAD).
- Experience with Autodesk Inventor is desired.
- Experience in 3D design and printing is required.
- Educational or job experience in electric vehicles, robotics, or moving applications is a plus.
- Experience with Military training, police training, or other tactical training is a plus.
- Background knowledge in basic weaponry, and gun safety is highly desired.
- Must have mechanical understanding and some basic experience with electrical wiring.
- Ability to work in the field and a willingness to work with their hands.
- Must be able to lift heavy objects above 45lbs.
- Ability to operate without supervision and work in a dynamic, fast paced environment.
- The ability to weld is highly desired.
- Travel may be required.
