NEW INCENTIVE PROGRAM: Position is eligible for quarterly incentives of up to $5,000 based on performance measures. Must be full-time and complete first full quarter as a City employee.
Salary: Salary will be based on qualifications and experience. Maximum base pay for this position is $166,250 annually.
Education and Experience
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM).
Licenses and Certificates
Licensed to practice Veterinary Medicine in the State of Texas by the State Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners prior to appointment or licensed in another state. If licensed in another state, must obtain Texas License within 30 days of appointment.
Texas and Federal Controlled Substances Registration, and USDA accreditation within 45 days of appointment.
Valid Texas Class "C" Driver License or equivalent from another state by time of appointment.
Responsibilities
Under general direction, supervise and provide routine health care and medical treatment of animals brought to the Animal Regulation and Disease Control (ARDC) facility. Participate in animal management and safety decisions.
Render veterinary care and treatment to animals brought to the ARDC facility, including: performing routine and emergency medical care, planning and implementing preventive medicine programs, administering anesthesia, performing surgery and post-operative care, conducting postmortem examinations, overseeing vaccination and other protocols, and maintaining detailed records of veterinary care.
Enforce laws associated with domestic and wild animals, including participating in the care and humane treatment of impounded animals, ensuring proper disposal of carcasses, and providing advice to local law enforcement agencies.
Perform related professional duties as required, including substituting for supervisors during absences, attending meetings, and compiling data for reports.
Supervise assigned staff, including scheduling, training, appraising performance, and enforcing personnel rules.
