Job Overview:
The charge nurse is responsible for the assessment coordination, implementation, and evaluation of the delivery of safe and effective patient-centered care during her or his assigned shifts on assigned unit. Assists the Nurse Manager in the responsibility for the quality of nursing care, the management of personnel and management systems on a specific unit on a designated shift.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Graduate of National League of Nursing Accredited School of Nursing
- NJ RN license
- AHA BLS Provider
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support PALS certification or eligible. If not certified at hire, expectation to receive certification within one year of hire
- Evidence of leadership ability
- Evidence of interpersonal skill and ability to collaborate with others
- Physical stamina and ability to safely lift and move objects and people in Pediatric inpatient care areas
Preferred:
- BSN degree
- Three years of Pediatric nursing experience
Certifications and Licenses Required:
- NJ RN license
- AHA BLS Provider
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support PALS certification or eligible. If not certified at hire, expectation to receive certification within one year of hire
Scheduling Requirements:
- Shift working, 7:00pm – 7:30am
- 36 hours/week
- Must work every other weekend and meet holiday commitment
Essential Functions:
- Delivers direct nursing care and/or education to patients and families when indicated
- Participates in the orientation, development, and supervision of personnel assigned to unit
- Motivates staff to improve their performance to improve unit and patient care outcomes
- Displays competence in the performance of unit-specific skills to be a resource and mentor for team members
- Demonstrates an understanding of regulatory requirements and professional practice guidelines
- May be required to function in the role of relief supervisor in the absence of the Supervisor in assuming responsibility for assigned shift as applicable
- Fulfills on-call responsibilities when assigned
- Ensures availability of an appropriate use of equipment and supplies
- Maintains knowledge and promotes mission, vision, and values of CSH
- Maintains competence as staff nurse and is a resource to other team members
- Assigns and delegates patient care as appropriate considering staff members, levels of Nursing experience, competency, and knowledge
- Collaborates with other departments in a professional manner to deliver safe, quality patient-centered care
- Consistently appraises clinical performance and learning needs through evaluation
- Addresses performance issues appropriately while treating employees consistently, fairly, and respectfully
- Exhibits consistent professional behavior and is accountable for actions with regard to professional issues
- Demonstrates effective communication, conflict management, interpersonal skills, and team building activities
- Must attend designated management meetings
