POSITION SUMMARY:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Financial Analyst. The Financial Analyst (FA) will manage financial activities for the Department of Neurology across all mission areas. The FA will serve as a primary financial contact and representative of the department and will act as a subject matter expert. This position will be responsible for budgetary and financial oversight of all research, institutional, clinical, and discretionary funds including reconciliation, compliance with applicable policies and regulations, dissemination of financial reporting to departmental stakeholders, and funds management in alliance with departmental goals. The FA is expected to add value by creating dashboards and metrics, identifying and driving business analysis, providing decision support analysis to be used by leadership to facilitate informed decisions, and to generate valuable insights and transparency around all areas of the business.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
I. Financial Management and Analysis
A. Grants
- Analyze the financial performance and prepare projections for grants to assist PIs and division leads with operational and strategic planning.
- Work with division leads and PIs to monitor expenditures on grants and contracts to ensure that the costs incurred are within the amounts awarded and compliant with institutional and funder policies such as determining appropriate allocation of salaries and effort for all faculty and personnel.
- Process any cost transfers, re-budgets, and other financial transactions required to ensure sponsored research accounts are balanced. Researches and reports any variances to grant budget to divisions and PIs.
- Perform reconciliation of all grants and work with central Research Finance Operations on timely submission of financial deliverables to sponsors.
- Liaise with central departments as it relates to various financial matters (i.e. invoicing, sponsor financial reporting, post-award setup, etc.).
- Keeps up to date on Federal grant policies as it relates to post-award management and communicates any changes to the finance team and division leads.
B. Clinical Trials
- Work with divisions closely to review and reconcile financials for clinical trials including tracking application of revenue and open accounts receivables, tracking enrollment targets and ensuring they match the executed contract, budget and expense review, and etc.
- Act as a liaison with the Clinical Research Support Unit post award team to ensure that industry sponsors are invoiced appropriately.
- Initiates and coordinates resolution of financial related discrepancies with appropriate parties and departments.
- Facilitates personnel changes and changes in funding as needed to ensure that expenditures are compliant and accurate.
C. Departmental
- Perform internal review and analysis of endowments, discretionary accounts, and FGP accounts to divisions, PIs and department.
- Assists in preparing fiscal year departmental budget.
- Monitors departmental budget regularly and reports on the financial performance of each division throughout the year. Determines and processes changes necessary to address resolution of variances.
- Review and approve all financial transactions, including personnel reallocations, grant, operating, and capital purchases, and other expense transactions, to ensure financial compliance and alignment with budget.
II. Financial Reporting
A. Provide monthly financial reports for grants, contracts, clinical trials, endowments, discretionary accounts, and FGP accounts to divisions, PIs and department.
B. Prepares budget to actual variance reports outlining any deviation from the approved budget.
C. Assist with creating dashboards and reporting suites to help department track certain metrics, and identify and drive business decisions.
D. Provide on-going reporting and analytical projects on an ad-hoc basis supporting the department.
III. Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
To qualify you must have a Bachelors degree with strong academic credentials. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to multi-task and work in a challenging fast paced environment. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Maturity, professionalism, and high level of discretion is required. Must be proficient in Excel, Word, Access, and Adobe Acrobat. At least 3 years of prior experience in a financial role.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Not-for-profit, healthcare or public accounting background preferred. Excellent analytical skills and the ability to present complex information in a usable format to a diverse audience. Ability to interpret and apply finance and accounting policies, practices, and systems. Working knowledge of general ledger, journal entries, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and month end, preferred. Ability to multi-task and work independently. Strong planning, organization, customer service, and written/verbal communication skills. Proficiency in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with demonstrated ability to work with cross-functional teams. Attention to detail while managing multiple projects in a dynamic fast paced environment, making independent judgments and the discernment to know when such independence is warranted. Ability to handle confidential information. Computer and Software Skills: Must become and remain proficient in all programs necessary to perform the duties and responsibilities for this role. Knowledge of PeopleSoft is preferred. Strong proficiency with intermediate to advanced Excel including pivot tables, vlookup and power query. Proficiency in Microsoft Suite.

Required Skills Required Experience
**Education and/or Experience:**
High School Diploma / GED;
Certification preferable.
Reasoning Ability: Able to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Able to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. Other skills and abilities: General familiarity with medical terminology as it pertains to anatomy and surgical procedures for an operating room.
